Sheffield United v Tottenham Hotspur Preview

With just a solitary point separating the two sides, Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur face each at Bramall Lane in a crucial match that could possibly see one of them dropping out of the Top 8.

While Spurs are currently on the 7th spot of the Premier league table with 45 points, Sheffield are placed in the 9th with 44 points.

Chris Wilder's Blades need a win much more than their rivals, having lost three games since their return from the pandemic.

Sheffield are going into Thursday's home clash after their ouster from the FA Cup last weekend and crushing defeats of 0-3 to Manchester United and Newcastle before that.

Jose Mourinho's Spurs have fared better on their return, drawing 1-1 against Manchester United and beating West Ham 2-0.

Sheffield will be without their key forward Lys Mousset out with a foot injury and center-back Jack O’Connell with an injured knee.

For Tottenham, defenders Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth are missing owing to injuries.

The three-month break might have actually benefited Jose Mourinho's side more. The Portuguese manager has almost a full squad to choose from going into the next few games at least, what with key players like Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Del Alli all having recovered fully from their injuries.

Given this, Tottenham's starting XI could look like this: Lloris (goal);

Aurier, Sánchez, Dier, Davies; Sissoko, Winks; Bergwijn, Alli, Son; Kane while Sheffield United's starting line-up could comprise of: Henderson (goal); Robinson, Egan, Basham; Stevens, Fleck, Norwood, Lundstram, Baldock; Sharp, McBurnie

The Blades will be playing their first Premier League game after the break at Bramall Lane where they have had a better record than in away games – winning 7 of their 15 outings at the venue in the ongoing 2019-20 season.

But what is worrying for the hosts is that they are yet to find the back of the net from their three Premier League outings since the return from the break.

They have let in as many as six goals from these games and could themselves all at sea against attackers like Kane, Son, Bergwin and Alli.

Historically, Tottenham hold a 31-21 advantage over Sheffield United with 21 draws in 73 matches.

The last game at the Tottenham stadium between these two ended in a 1-1 draw – that was when Sheffield was in much better form than they are in presently.

The odds are thus very much on the visitors to Bramall Lane taking three points from the July 2nd game.
