Blues to force Draw at PSG

Updated: 31/01/2023
PSG v Chelsea Champions League match preview
Could it be three times lucky for Chelsea as they face PSG on a Tuesday night in the Champions League. Both teams are one a piece when it comes to qualifying to the next stage in the Champions League in successive years.
Chelsea make the trip to the French capital to meet their nemesis Paris Saint Germaine without captain John Terry.
A hamstring injury picked up on Saturday against Newcastle. Chelsea crashed out of last year’s Champions League season by just a narrow goal difference – thanks to the last minute header scored by David Luiz, a former Chelsea player.
The French champions have had a wonderful season, their squad looks to be in good shape and well prepared. Meanwhile Chelsea’s ailing domestic football results implies that winning the Champions League may seem to be the only viable ticket to get a place at next year’s competition.
Chelsea’s domestic woes however are expected to have minimal effect on this titanic clash as Guus Hidink has managed to bring much of the confidence which was lost under the leadership of Jose Mourinho.
As usual Diego Costa will lead the Blue’s striking force and his form has been pretty impressive having scored a total of 7 goals in his last 8 appearances for the Blues under the new caretaker manager.
Many believe that Costa will be able to replicate this kind of form as he is extremely sharp-witted while in front of the goal and will give PSG’s defenders a difficult time owing to his unpredictable on-pitch behavior.
PSG’S front lineup is highly predictable and the expectations are high that Zlatan and Edinson Cavani will try to light up Parc des Princes stadium. Zlatan has had little success while playing against Chelsea and would like to overturn this mischief following his last season’s dismissal due to rough play on Chelsea’s Oscar.
Defensive wise Chelsea may be vulnerable as skipper John Terry was injured while playing against Newcastle in the Barclays Premier League. With the absence of the young defender -Zouma; Gary Cahill, Branislav Ivanovic, Azpilicueta and the youngster Rahaman Baba are expected to pair up and try to bring much of the PSG’s striking force into a balancing level.
David Luiz was considered a cult hero among Chelsea fans during his Premier League tenure however following his departure to the French outfits much of this has changed and maybe he would be looking forward to doing a repeat of last season’s outcome – deny Chelsea’s strikers from scoring a valuable goal, come up front and inflict some nerve wrecking damage by scoring a last minute winner against Chelsea.
Angel Di Maria has proved to be a much valuable addition to the French powerhouse following his move from the Premier League and his midfield prowess will be put to test by the likes of Oscar, Fabregas and Eden Hazard who seem to have had a little dip in form.
- Paris SG have only won one of their last six Champions League games against Chelsea (3-1 at home in April 2014), they have drawing three and lost the other two.
- Chelsea's last five away games in the Champions League knockout stages have ended in draws with them losing only once.
If were looking at a correct score prediction in this game then a draw looks to be the best option. A 1-1 or possible 2-2 at likely UK bookmaker odds are the best football bets on this one.
