Whisper it quietly, but Leicester City might just gatecrash the illustrious ‘top six’ in the Premier League this season.
A campaign where Leicester finish above one of the superpowers in the English game and cement a path into Europe will certainly be the ambition for Brendan Rodgers when the 2019/20 season kicks off on August 9.
And their fans have every reason to be optimistic that their side can finish above one of Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United.
Leicester to finish in the top four – 17.00*!
“Our ambitions have to be to win a trophy and finish in the top six,” states Pete Selby from the ‘For Fox Sake Podcast’.
“There is absolutely no reason that either or both can’t be achieved. Make no mistake that is why Brendan Rodgers is here, he is aiming for top six.
“To leave Celtic at the time he did shows the attractiveness of the club, squad, owners and the direction the whole club is moving in.”
Leicester finished ninth for the second season in a row in 2018/19 but a strong end to the last campaign has laid the foundations for enthusiasm and belief ahead of 2019/20.

Rodgers replaced Claude Puel in late February and took 17 points from a possible 30 on offer in his ten games in charge, with an emphatic 3-0 thumping over Arsenal perhaps offering a sign of things to come.
“I’ve been impressed with Rodgers’ calm and assured manner. The style of play he has brought to the club is great to watch and you can see how much the crowd and the squad respect him.”
It’s been an interesting transfer window for the club that won the league back in 2016 and one that could still have a few twists and turns before the deadline on August 8.
“Youri Tielemans is the most exciting and important signing the club has ever made”
The signing of promising young defender James Justin from Championship side Luton Town represents a look to the future for The Foxes and the astute capture of Ayoze Perez for around £30m from Newcastle United could prove to be one of the best pieces of business of the window.
It is Youri Tieleman’s signature that will have been the one that caught the imagination of Leicester City fans however, and his arrival from French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco for a club record £40m will have tongues wagging all along Filbert Way.
Reportedly beating off interesting from Manchester United, Leicester sealed the future of the Belgium international on a four-year deal after Tielemans had shone on a loan move.
The 22-year-old scored three times and set up four goals in his 13 league appearances since his temporary move in January, and it’s a move that has delighted fans, as Pete explains:
“Youri Tielemans is the most exciting and important signing the club has ever made.
“He is a proven Premier League performer who would easily grace a Champions League club.
“A level of player that has never been signed by Leicester before but it’s us who he has chosen, which speaks volumes about the current state of the club.”
The one minor grey crowd that may be hanging above Leicester’s preparations for the new season is the future of defender Harry Maguire, who is the subject of a possible transfer to Old Trafford.
Will Harry Maguire leave Leicester City?
England international Maguire has reportedly asked the club to allow him to join Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side and it is widely expected the deal will go through before the transfer deadline.
Maguire has been a fan favourite since his move to the King Power from Hull City in 2017 and the performances in his first season led to him having a starring role at the 2018 World Cup in Russia for England.
Although, whatever the outcome of Maguire’s future, it may not be an entirely desperate situation for Leicester fans:
“Harry’s name was sung by the crowd throughout our first friendly and he is a certainty for Wolves at home on the opening day….. if he is still here.
“If he does leave, I would trust our recruitment department to replace him as they have been having a purple patch with signings recently.”
It remains to be seen whether Leicester City will line up with Harry Maguire on Saturday August 10thbut either way there is optimism pouring from the stands going into the new season.
With Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all facing testing summers it may well be worth keeping an eye on events at the King Power Stadium.
