English Premier League Preview – Watford vs Manchester United Prediction Prediction – Sept 18, 2016 – Vicarage Road

New entrants to the Premier League, Watford, will be pleased with their performance so far. Except for a 1-3 defeat at the hands of Arsenal and a narrow 1-2 loss to Chelsea, they held a tough Southampton to a 1-1 draw and came back wonderfully to beat West Ham 4-2 last Saturday. This finds Watford at on the 10th spot and first among the seven teams locked on 4 points by virtue of a better goal average. Fresh from the inspiring victory against the Hammers, Watford get ready to host EPL powerhouse Manchester United at Vicarage Road on Sunday the 18th.

For Watford, ex-Juventas man Roberto Pereyra will be someone to watch out for. The 25-year old has lots of creativity and attacking instincts in the midfield to cause problems for the visitors. He will be ably assisted by Nigerian Odion Ighalo, whose finishing abilities have fetched him as many as 32 goals for his club over two seasons. Another figure upfront will be the omnipresent striker and skipper Tory Deeney, veteran of 247 matches for Watford, looking to add to his tally of 91 goals for the club.

Manchester United will not be too high on confidence after their Derby defeat to Manchester City last week. Match fatigue could also creep in before the Sunday's clash post the Europa Cup outing with Feyenoord on Wednesday. Luke Shaw looks a doubtful starter at Vicarage Road thanks to a hamstrung injury. Rooney’s inconsistent form in the role of a midfielder is another cause for concern. Ibrahimovic still looks hungry for goals, Fellaini looks jaded while Rashford looks really sharp.

While odds clearly favor the Red Devils at Vicarage Road, Watford could possibly capitalize on the visitors' callousness, match fatigue and propensity to miss out on scoring opportunities.

For United a win is necessary to keep them in the Top 4 and in reckoning for the tile hunt. History doesn't favor the hosts at all. The last time Watford won against the Old Trafford club was in the 1986/87 season. After that it has been a string of 10 straight losses, which is why bookmakers do not expect things to change and have gone overwhelmingly for a United win.
