English Premier League Preview – Swansea vs Liverpool Prediction – October 01, 2016 – Liberty Stadium

Swansea City need to get their act together when they host a very rampant and confident Liverpool at Liberty Stadium on October 1. Apart from a 1-0 win against a struggling Burnley in the opener, the only noteworthy achievement for the Swans was a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at home. Their tally of 4 points after 6 matches is their worst performance ever in a Premier League season. This could make it easy for us to nail a result in our Swansea vs Liverpool prediction.

Signings

A record signing of £15.5m of Athletico Madrid striker, Borja Baston, has not helped. Baston has made no impact in his 2 appearances so far. Fernando Llorente, another £5m Spanish signing from Sevilla hasn't performed either, although his goal against Manchester City seemed to indicate a bit of his true potential.

Jordi Amat, Mike van der Hoorn and Angel Rangel have been ineffective at the back. Lukasz Fabianski has kept the goal well with some outstanding saves, but that hasn't made things better.

Goal Stats

The Swans have conceded as many as 10 goals so far in the 2016-17 Premier League season. The hosts at Liberty Stadium can only hope to cash in on the gaps created by Liverpool in their all-out attack mode.

Leroy Fer, Swansea's £4.8m acquisition from QPR, will try to do that. He is already by far the Swans' top scorer with 3 goals.

How the hosts plan to stop Liverpool from completely running them over is another matter. Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Sadio Mane, Milner, Benteke and Origi have all been among goals and look hungry for more. Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren have been complementing each other wonderfully at the back and have not hesitated in moving upfront to attack.

The Reds are conceding lesser goals now than when they started the season. From 6 matches they have netted as many as 16 goals and taken in 9. This is a marked improvement from the negative goal average they had after their first three matches.

The Reds move into the Liberty stadium on Saturday on the back of a 5-1 thrashing of Hull City at Anfield and barring unforeseen circumstances they should make short work of the Swans in their own backyard.

For Swansea, a defeat could mean rotting in the 17th spot on the table they are currently in or even worse moving downward with Italian coach, Francesco Guidolin's job on the line. For Jurgen Klopp one more victory would mean being well-entrenched in the Top Four.

But don’t rule out upsets, for the last time the Reds had come to the Liberty in 2015-16 they had lost to the hosts 1-3.

In their last 12 encounters, Liverpool have beaten Swansea on 8 occasions and lost just 3. Bookies are expecting this trend to continue come October 1, Saturday.
