Sheffield United v Wolverhampton Preview
For both Sheffield United and Wolverhampton, their coming clash at Bramall lane on the evening of Wednesday will be critical as far as their European aspirations go.
More so for Chris Wilder's Blades who currently sit on the 8th spot with 48 points from 33 matches.
Sheffield could be momentarily pushed out of the Top 8 if Tottenham Hotspur were to win against Everton on Monday night – which is what makes their encounter with the Wolves on June 8 so critical.
Nuno Espirito Santo's side are comparatively better placed at the sixth and 4 points ahead of their forthcoming rivals.
The Wolves' Champions League hopes were somewhat dashed when they went down to Arsenal 0-2 on Saturday but they have a Europa League entry very much in their sights.
While the very gifted Wolves attacking combine of Diogo Jota, Adama Traore and Raul Jiminez failed to make much impact on a not- so-formidable Arsenal defense, it would be interesting to be see the way they deal with a Sheffield back line considered to be among the best in the Premier League and spearheaded by the likes of Phil Jagielka, Chris Basham and the superb Dean Henderson between the posts.
Sheffield United have shown great resilience on their return to the Premier League after a 12-year absence and the credit goes to Chris Wilder for moulding a side that can trouble some of the best.
Nuno Santo's Wolves have also been punching well above their the last couple of seasons, defeating last year's title holders Manchester City twice already in current edition.
Moreover, the Wolves are undefeated in their last 5 Premier League games away from home and are definitely better performers on the road much like their Wedneday's opponents who have lost more matches at Bramall Lane this season than away from it.
But then, they have won more games at the venue (8) than those away (4).
The previous League meeting between these sides took place in December 2019 when it finished with a 1-1 draw. Matt Doherty for the Wolves and Lys Mousset for Sheffield were the scorers.
Going by the Wolves strong track record on the road – 7W/6D/3L(Away) vs 6W/7D/4L(Home) new UK bookmakers are wagering on the visitors to Bramall Lane to take three points from Wednesday's game.
But the hosts are no pushovers as they have shown in the past and we could have a very tight contest on our hands as the odds would suggest.
