Ole Solksjaer's Red Devils are a bit low on confidence going into the December 9 clash after having been bested 0-2 by Manchester City in the EFL Cup semi-finals on Wednesday night while Watford will enter the contest on the back of a 1-2 defeat to Swansea City in a Championship fixture  last week.

Apart from the defeat to City, United are on an excellent run, winning eight of their last ten in the Premier League to rise to the second spot of the table, level on points with leaders Liverpool.

Watford by contrast are struggling and find themselves in the 6th place of the Championship table after 22 games.

United will again be without the services of defender Phil Jones owing to injury and striker Edinson Cavani through suspension. Donny van de Beek, Axel Tuanzebe, Daniel James and Juan Mata should all come into the starting XI, while Eric Bailly could return to mind things at the back.

As for Watford, Joao Pedro and Craig Cathcart have returned to training after recovering from hamstring injuries and the pair look set to feature at Old Trafford. The Hornets' new manager Xisco Munoz is beset by injury issues with Isaac Success, Domingos Quina and Stipe Perica unavailable, while Christian Kabasele's still struggling with a knee injury. But the visitors to Old Trafford are no short of experience with the likes of Troy Deeney, Ismaila Sarr and Andre Gray all being included.

Ole Solksjaer may choose to rest his two mainstays, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford but he will still have a potent attack at his disposal with Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial spearheading the same.

Manchester United possible starting lineup:

Henderson (goal); Tuanzebe, Bailly, Maguire, Telles; Matic, Van de Beek; James, Mata, Greenwood; Martial

Watford possible starting lineup:

Bachmann (goal); Navarro, Troost-Ekong, Wilmot, Masina; Hughes, Chalobah, Cleverley, Sarr; Gray, Deeney

While the Red Devils are the bookmakers‘ favourites to progress to the next round, Watford could make life difficult for Solksjaer's men who oddly enough have been struggling big time to find peak form at home at Old Trafford this season.
