Leicester City v Manchester United Preview

Leicester City host Manchester United at the King Power stadium on July 26th Sunday to decide who stays in the Top four and qualify for next season's Champions League.

Both teams will be going into the final clash of the EPL season with less than satisfactory performances.

While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by a West Ham side desperate to stave off relegation, Leicester's previous fixture ended in disaster at the Tottenham stadium where they crashed to a 0-3 defeat.

Leicester City who spent three below par seasons after their stunning win in 2015-16 have greatly exceeded expectations in the current edition and few expected them to be in this position on the season’s final day.

The Red Devils are in a rich vein of form in 2020, making up greatly for the shambolic start they had to the season although their winning streak has somewhat faltered in recent games.

All this makes for a very interesting showdown at the King Power where the hosts will need to win at all costs and for United a draw may just suffice.

Coming to United's team news, defender Eric Bailly will have to sit Sunday's clash out after being stretchered out of the FA Cup game against Chelsea on Sunday.

So Harry Maguire will continue to partner Victor Lindelof at the center of the Red Devils' defence while David De Gea will be expected to man the posts despite his erratic form of late.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka will in all probability start at the right-back after having to sit out for most of the match against the Hammers on Wednesday while Brandon Williams could retain his spot as left-back.

Solskjaer's game plan here will to stop the Foxes from dominating the flanks. Paul Pogba is expected to take on the role of a deep-lying playmaker alongside Nemanja Matic at the heart of the United midfield.

Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood will play just ahead of the midfield pair as part of the team’s attack.

Both Fred and Scott McTominay will be available for selection on the bench but might come on as the impact substitutes if Solskjaer decides to call upon their services.

As for Leicester, coach Brendan Rodger will still have to without his most brilliant playmaker James Maddison who has been out for quite some time owing to a hip surgery.

He will also without his best defender Caglar Soyuncu, out on a red-card suspension. The onus of defending will hence fall on the trio of Ryan Bennett, Wes Morgan and Jonny Evans. Youri Tielemans and Wilfried Ndidi will anchor the Leicester midfield as they try wrest control from the opposition at the center of the park.

Luke Thomas could get another chance to impress as a left wing-back while James Justin hopes to produce some solid display on the right side of the midfield.

Both will be relied upon to offer some decent ammunition to top goal-scorer Jamie Vardy inside the rival penalty box.Harvey Barnes and Ayoze Perez will be responsible for exposing Man United’s defensive weaknesses out on the flanks.

The Premier League’s leading goal-scorer, Jamie Vardy will lead the line for the Foxes down the middle.

The English striker will be Rodgers’ best hope for a goal this weekend as he is expected to be at the heart of every good move Leicester conjure up going forward.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in the last 11 meetings against the Foxes in all competitions, winning eight and drawing three and they should have enough ammunition to walk away with three points on Sunday.

The Foxes head into the game sitting 5th in the standings, just a point behind United and Chelsea in 3rd and 4th respectively,

Rodgers will of course expect a last gasp effort from his team to turn the odds around at the King Power this weekend.
