EFL Carabao Cup 4th round preview: Everton v West Ham United – Goodison Park – Wednesday, September 30, 2020 – 19:45 hrs BST

Both Everton and West Ham have come out of impressive Premier League wins and will battle to stay in the EFL Cup when they face each other off in the fourth round at Goodison Park on the night of September 30th.

Carlo Ancelotti's Everton have made one of their best ever starts to a season winning all their five games across all competitions, while the same cannot be said of the Hammers who succumbed to losses against Bournemouth, Newcastle and Arsenal to begin with.

But David Moyes' men have come back strongly, thrashing Hull City 5-1 in the EFL Cup third round and pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the season so far by beating the formidable Wolves 4-0 last Saturday.

The Toffees having overcome Salford City and Fleetwood Town in progressing to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup will find the visiting Hammers a much tougher proposition.

New signings James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure have all blended right into the Toffees team, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had a particularly explosive start to the season with five goals so far.

West Ham's third-round drubbing of Hull was marred by manager Moyes as well as Josh Cullen and Issa Diop being taken ill but the Hammers have prevailed.

Everton will still be without their center-backs Mason Holgate and Jarrad Branthwaite, so Michael Keane and Yerry Mina will be expected to mind things at the back.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been under some criticism on several occasions this season and could see his spot being challenged by 31-year old reserve custodian Jonas Lossl.

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bernard are among those in line to make a start at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

Coming to West Ham team news, Ben Johnson is all set to start at right-back following an injury to Ryan Fredericks in the win over Wolves.

Striker Sebastien Haller who is currently the EFL top scorer charts with 4 goals to his name will almost certainly spearhead the attack.

Andriy Yarmolenko who struck a brace in the win over Hull is almost certain to make a start and so is Felipe Anderson, who was an unused substitute against Wolves.

Everton possible starting lineup:

Pickford (goal); Kenny, Mina, Keane, Digne; Davies, Sigurdsson, Doucoure; Iwobi, Calvert-Lewin, Bernard

West Ham United possible starting lineup:

Randolph (goal); Johnson, Balbuena, Ogbonna, Masuaku; Noble, Rice; Yarmolenko, Lanzini, Anderson; Haller

Everton with their new signings and a string of impressive wins are in the in-form side but with more hunger, appetite and confidence returning to their ranks, the Hammers will be no pushovers.
