8/11 Barca finally announce Griezmann capture - (2025)

Barcelona have finally completed the signing of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann for a fee of £108million (Barcelona 8/11 to win La Liga 2019-20).

Ending one of the most protracted transfer sagas of the summer, the two clubs reached an agreement for the transfer of the Frenchman, who has penned a five-year contract through until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Griezmann had an £108million buyout clause in his Atletico contract although Barcelona were initially unwilling to meet it. However, they caved in to get their man, with his new contract containing an 800million euros buyout clause.

The 28-year-old announced as far back as May that he would be leaving Atletico following five successful seasons with Diego Simeone’s side, during which he won the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup.

He will now aim to win his first La Liga title, as well as guide Barcelona back to Champions League glory, four years after they last won the trophy (Barcelona 9/1 to win Champions League 2019-20).

“With his arrival at FC Barcelona, the Frenchman takes another step forward in his career with the goal of consolidating his place as one of the best players in the world,” the reigning Spanish league champions said in a statement.

It is another chapter in what has been a fascinating summer in the race for next year’s La Liga title, with Spain’s big two spending big to try and become the dominant force.

Real Madrid have spent upwards of £300million already, bringing in Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, among others (Real Madrid 5/4 to win La Liga 2019-20).

The other big saga involving Barcelona – and potentially Los Blancos as well – is the deal to bring PSG’s Neymar back to the Nou Camp after a two-year stay in France.

The signing of Griezmann may convince him that Barca have genuine ambition to win the Champions League again (Neymar to join Barcelona 1/3, Real Madrid 5/1).
