From Lewis Hamilton’s fifth world drivers’ title, to Gareth Bale’s Champions League Final stunner and Europe’s stunning Ryder Cup win, it’s been another incredible 12 months of sport.

We’ve listed 10 of our favourite moments from 2018 below, if you think there’s one we’ve missed, then let us know!

England win a shootout

An unbelievable summer produced an unbelievable World Cup and England fans had plenty to shout about. There was Kieran Trippier’s free-kick, Harry Kane getting the Golden Boot and the Three Lions putting six past Panama. But it was the penalty shootout win over Colombia which remains the sweetest.

Super Eagles win the Super Bowl

A record-breaking Super Bowl brought with it a maiden winner as the Philadelphia Eagles beat five-time winners and defending champions New England Patriots 41-33.

Hamilton clinches fifth drivers’ title

If there was any doubt over Hamilton’s legendary status before this year…there isn’t now. The Briton joined Juan Manuel Fangio on five World Drivers’ Championships after yet another enduring battle with German counterpart Sebastian Vettel.

Native River wins Gold Cup epic

A Gold Cup for the ages saw Native River slug it out with Might Bite for the Cheltenham Festival showpiece. Colin Tizzard’s star eventually came out on top by just over 4l. He’s 9/2 to retain his crown in the 2019 running of the Gold Cup.

Mollywood guide Europe to the Ryder Cup

The last time the USA won the Ryder Cup in Europe, Jordan Spieth was still in nappies, don’t you know? Judging by this demolition in Paris, Spieth will probably have a kid of his own by the time the Americans taste success this side of the Atlantic. Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood were the stars as Europe won out 17½ to 10½.

Tiger roars again

It’s impossible to underestimate the effect Tiger Woods has on golf. So to see the crowds flocking to the final green as Tiger holed the putt to seal a first Tour Championship win in five years was truly something to behold.

Cross turns the Power off

Cast your mind all the way back to 1st January, as Rob Cross – playing in his first World Championship – took on Phil Taylor – playing in his last ever match. The master may have gone off as favourite, but it was the apprentice who rose to the occasion to switch off the Power.

Cook signs off with a century

One of English cricket’s greatest ever players bowed out in suitable style with a century against India at The Oval in his final ever Test Match. The Chef finished up as the fifth highest run-scorer in Test history, with 12,472 runs from 162 tests.

Fury battles to Wilder draw

A hugely entertaining WBC Heavyweight title fight ended in a draw between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury. The Gypsy King looked to be out for the count after hitting the canvas in the final round, only to get back to his feet and end the fight the strongest. A rematch between the two looks likely.

Bale scores a CL Final stunner

The 2018 Champions League Final between Liverpool and Real Madrid had it all. Goals, clangers and controversy reined supreme, although it was a special strike from Gareth Bale which lives longest in the memory.
