Rafael Nadal is through to the last four of the US Open.
Rafael Nadal remains on course for his 19th Grand Slam title after booking his place in the semi-finals of the US Open (Nadal 3/10 – US Open Outright).
The Spanish ace went through in straight sets against Diego Schwartzman, but was made to work before wrapping up a 6-4 7-5 6-2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
With Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic out of the tournament, Nadal is now in the box seat to go all the way and clock up another major title.
The other three semi-finalists, Marco Berrettini, Grigor Dimitrov and Daniil Medvedev, have never played in a Grand Slam final before and would have to overcome the occasion as well as their opponent if they go through.
Nadal will be up against Berrettini in Friday’s semi-final after the Italian overcame Gael Monfils in a thrilling quarter-final (Berrettini 7/1, Nadal 1/16 – US Open Match Betting).
In a match that went to five sets and lasted three hours and 57 minutes, Berrettini squandered four-match points before holding his nerve in a dramatic tie-break, to win 3-6 6-3 6-2 3-6 7-6(7-5).
In the ladies draw Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic will meet Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu after both reached their first Grand Slam semi-final (Bencic 6/5, Andreescu 4/6 – US Open Match Betting).
Andreescu, 19, recovered from a set down to defeat Belgian 25th seed Elise Mertens 3-6 6-2 6-3, while Bencic put friendship aside to beat Croatia’s Donna Vekic 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.
Looking ahead to Thursday and Serena Williams, chasing a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title, plays Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in the other semi-final (Svitolina 9/4, Williams 1/3 – US Open Match Betting).
