Will Liverpool star play against Crystal Palace and Leicester?

Heads were scratched when Liverpool loaned out second-choice right back Nathaniel Clyne to Bournemouth due to first choice Trent Alexander-Arnold’s tendency to pick up niggles and fitness complaints.

And now that cranium itching has been justified as, just 11 days after Clyne was farmed out to the Cherries, Alexander-Arnold has picked up yet another injury.

The loss of both right backs is cause for alarm for Liverpool fans, while 22.6 per cent of Fantasy Premier League managers will be reeling following the injury to the lad they call ‘TAA’ for short.

How long will Alexander-Arnold be out for?

Despite picking up an injury in the build-up to Liverpool’s 1-0 victory against Brighton, Alexander-Arnold played the full ninety minutes at the Amex.

On Tuesday, however, it was revealed that the 20-year-old had suffered ligament damage.

Alexander-Arnold doesn’t require surgery, but will miss at least a fortnight of action with some suggesting that he will miss as much as a month of football.

Two weeks out would see him miss Liverpool’s fixtures against Crystal Palace and Leicester, while a month out would rule him out of matches against West Ham and Nathaniel Clyne’s temporary club, Bournemouth.

Should I get rid of him?

Absolutely.

There is not much point in keeping Alexander-Arnold in your side given that he could miss as many as four gameweeks.

Don’t consider re-signing him until Liverpool’s match against Watford in Gameweek 28.

Potential replacements

Get rid of Trent Alexander-Arnold, at least until he returns to full fitness, and sign one of these attacking-minded defenders.

Lucas Digne (£5.2m). After a slow start to the season, Digne has emerged as a must-own Fantasy premier League defender. The Frenchman earned his third double-digit points tally in Gameweek 22 and could continue his impressive run of form against Southampton, Huddersfield and Wolves.

Luke Shaw (£5m) and Manchester United picked up back-to-back clean sheets against Newcastle and Tottenham in Gameweeks 21 and 22, tripling their season’s total. Take advantage of United’s newfound steel and recruit their top-scoring defender, Shaw.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.5m) has been a cult favourite among Fantasy Premier League players due to his budget price and his consistent performances for Crystal Palace. Palace face a decent run of fixtures after a tough game against Liverpool this weekend, coming up against Southampton, Fulham, West Ham and Leicester.

i verdict

Alexander-Arnold looks set to miss between two and four matches, so don’t think twice about getting rid of him.

Probably best to replace him with Lucas Digne ahead of Everton’s kind run of matches.
