Dave Allen has declared that he will ‘probably’ retire after suffering a one-sided defeat to David Price on Saturday night.

The fan favourite fighter lost by corner stoppage when his trainer Darren Barker called the contest off after 30 minutes of pure domination in the chief supporting contest prior to Dillian Whyte vs Oscar Rivas.

Allen was initially stretchered out of the ring and taken to hospital, with supporters fearing for him until Barker tweeted to confirm he was okay.

The 27-year-old then posted his own message in which he strongly hinted at retirement: “Don’t want anyone to worry about me, just a hard man gone old and soft the last 18 months.

“Very happy and proud of David Price. I will be okay, but the last 12 months or so my health has been deteriorating.

“I’m glad I hung on took the chance and made money and now probably done.”

In the fight itself, Price began by setting the pace and he started as he meant to go on.

Boxing behind a stern jab, the Scouser controlled the entire contest, barely allowing Allen into it for any period of time.

While the fight wasn’t a thriller, it remained enthralling as fans were waiting for the moment popular ‘people’s champion’ Allen would turn things around.

However, unlike in his wins over Nick Webb and Lucas Browne, this moment never came.
