Carole’s Destrier won a cracking renewal of the Mandarin Chase at Newbury this afternoon, although it was to the dismay of Scoop6 punters who were out of luck once again.

There are huge pots to aim for in the New Year though, with the win fund reaching £829,983 by the time the flag rose for the opening contest at Doncaster, while the bonus fund had risen to £637,448. This is estimated to hit £2million in the opening bet of 2019.

The first leg at Doncaster went to Harry Skelton on board Flash The Steel who won at 6/1, before a couple of 12/1 winners in Speaker Connolly and Treackle Tart meant only 239 of the 388,365 units who had played the Scoop6 remained at the half way stage.

This was reduced further to 25 units when I’m A Game Changer landed the fourth leg at Newbury at 13/2, before Carole’s Destrier, another winner at 12/1, struck.

Totepool spokesman Matt Hulmes said “The Scoop6 has proved punters’ nemesis in the closing weeks of 2018, but the opening Saturday of 2019 could prove very exciting with an estimated £2million in combined funds to shoot for.”

The place fund paid £528.90 and was won by 257 units.
