Black Type launches in Ireland ahead of Grand National
Online bookmaker Black Type has launched in Ireland just in time for the start of the Grand National Festival at Aintree taking place this weekend.
Black Type hopes that it can continue progress in Ireland after it saw a 255% increase in this year’s Cheltenham Festival compared to last.
Black Type has grown steadily since its launch in 2016 on the back of its unique approach. The operator adopts a fair approach and promised at the time of its launch to trade in a traditional way.
Upon its launch, Black Type promised not to close winning accounts and to also take any bet. Research by the Horserace Bettors Forum found that over 20,000 accounts were closed in 2016, and that many more bets were refused based on the large size of their stake.
Commenting on the launch, Black Type COO, Stephen Davison, said:
We are also delighted to welcome the Irish to BlackType.bet. With Gordon Elliot set to saddle a quarter of the field in the Grand National on Saturday and Tiger Roll set to go off as one of the hottest favourites in living memory, we expect to see plenty of activity from Ireland! Our uniqueness is that we are trying our best to be competitive on price on the sports we want to lay. We are not going to be competitive all the time and we pick our battles, but I would hope that we can be recognised for the fact we are trying to do things a little differently.– Stephen Davison, COO Black Type.
Last month, the government of Ireland published a report calling for an independent gambling regulator to be established, much like the UK Gambling Commission. Officials hope to have the regulator set up within 18 months.
The regulator would be funded by levies and fees placed on operators in the industry. Funds will also be directed towards social causes, such as research into treatment of problem-gambling.
