Top Boxing Betting Picks for the Week – July 29th Edition

Saturday, August 3

Paddy Gallagher vs Chris Jenkins

  • Where: Belfast, Northern Ireland
  • TV: ESPN+

Paddy Gallagher has a nice 16-5 record with 10 knockouts. He last fought against then 5-0-0 Liam Wells. Gallagher beat Wells via TKO. On Saturday, Gallagher takes on Chris Jenkins.

Jenkins is 21-3-2 with 8 knockouts. Jenkins has a couple of inches on Gallagher. Not only that, but he fights a more traditional style, with his hands up in a defensive position. Gallagher prefers to fight with his hands down, goading his opponent to throw reckless punches. Jenkins should take advantage of Gallagher when he drops his hands.

Boxing Betting Pick: Chris Jenkins

Michael Conlan vs Diego Alberto Ruiz

Now 11-0 with 6 knockouts, Michael Conlan faces arguably his toughest opponent yet on Saturday. Conlan enters the ring against 21-2 Diego Alberto Ruiz. However, for the 25-year-old Argentinian to win, he must get past Conlan’s immense physical attributes.

Conlan is taller and has a much longer reach. If Ruiz can get inside, he can do some damage. Unfortunately, Ruiz has only fought in his native Argentina. Conlan should easily handle Ruiz on Saturday. The real question is when, or if, Michael Conlan will ever fight a ranked boxer.

Boxing Betting Pick: Michael Conlan

Andre Berto vs Miguel Cruz

  • Where: New York, NY
  • TV: FOX

The 35-year-old Berto has built a 32-5 record with 24 knockouts by fighting the best in the world. Since 2015, Berto has lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr., beaten Victor Ortiz, lost to Shawn Porter, and beaten Devon Alexander. He isn’t afraid of anybody.

On August 3, the throws down against Miguel Cruz. Cruz is 18-1 with 12 knockouts. Although it’s difficult to see Cruz knocking out Berto, he’s got a serious height advantage in this match. Cruz is 5’ 11” while Berto is 5’ 6”. However, Cruz only has a ½” reach advantage, 69” to Berto’s 68 ½”.

Berto’s experience could lead him to victory here. He’s fought the much better fighters. Plus, he’s paced himself with only a single fight a year since 2016. Berto is worth backing.

Boxing Betting Pick: Andre Berto

Marcus Browne vs Jean Pascal

23-0-0 Marcus Browne owns the interim WBA Light Heavyweight Title. The southpaw tends to keep his right down when he fights. That’s usually a recipe for disaster, but Browne has a speedy jab. Right now in his career, the macho dude style of fighting won’t hurt him against a boxer like Jean Pascal.

Pascal has a lot of wear on his tire treads. His record is 33-6-1. He last fought and lost a unanimous decision to Dimitry Bivol. Bivol is a better fighter than Browne. Bivol also took a lot out of Pascal. That should set up Browne for a nice win in this.

Boxing Betting Pick: Marcus Browne
