NFL Playoff Picks Against the Spread

Let’s take a look at each of the matchups for this week, starting in Kansas City.

Cleveland Browns @ Kansas City Chiefs

Sunday 01/17 – 03:05 PM

The Cleveland Browns shocked the entire world with their huge victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers during Wild Card weekend.

After making the postseason for the first time in over 25 years they were able to rout their division rivals and set themselves up with a date in Kansas City. The Browns kicked off their win after Pittsburgh center Maurkice Pouncey didn’t snap the ball correctly on the very first play of the game, causing the ball to roll all the way into the endzone where a Cleveland defender eventually jumped on it and scored a touchdown.

They did all of this without their best two cornerbacks on their roster, their head coach Kevin Stefanski and three starters on the offensive line.

Even without all of that their rushing attack was elite yet again behind Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt and Baker Mayfield was able to find open receivers on what felt like every pass attempt.

As for their defense, they began to allow a ton of points to Pittsburgh once the game was already decided and I am not sure if they just took their foot off the pedal or if they genuinely had trouble slowing down a Steeler offense that has a ton of talent on it despite the horrific game.

Flip it over and you get the Kansas City Chiefs who were able to secure the first-round bye in the AFC with their 14-2 record on the season.

However, that might not be the best thing for them as their superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes hasn’t played in around three weeks due to the team resting him for their season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Now, Mahomes and company have to try and shake the rest off against a Browns team that seems to be on a mission after stomping the Steelers last week with Kareem Hunt stating that this next game is personal for him.

Kansas City is going to need to avoid a slow start and come prepared and ready to play against a Cleveland team that far too many people are taking for granted right now.

This is going to be a far closer game than what people are expecting heading into this matchup and I truly believe that the Browns have a shot at winning this ball game due to multiple stars on the Chiefs not playing for a few weeks and due to the fact that the Browns are more motivated heading into this game.

Although, it would be impossible to fully bet against Mahomes and Andy Reid as I have the Chiefs finding a way to pull out a narrow victory against a team that isn’t going away anytime soon but watch out for this Browns team as they have a chance to make this game really interesting.

Pick: Kansas City Chiefs

Baltimore Ravens @ Buffalo Bills

Saturday 01/16 – 08:15 PM

This game has already gotten a ton of media attention and has been labeled as the game of the week by people around the world.

The Baltimore Ravens were able to grind out a convincing victory over the Tennessee Titans in their last game and decided to get their revenge against the team that stomped on their logo during the regular season.

The Ravens intercepted quarterback Ryan Tannehill with around two minutes remaining in the game and their entire defense ran onto the Titans logo in the middle of the field and disrespected it.

They also refused to shake any Titans players hands after the clocks struck zero, with Lamar Jackson instructing all of his teammates to just run into the locker room without giving the other team any chance to say something to them.

NFL Playoff Picks Against the Spread for Divisional Round - Buffalo BillsThe Ravens weren’t that great on the offensive side of the football in that game though, not doing much through the air and having their rushing attack very limited. However, their defense was dominant throughout the game and was able to hold the NFLs leading rusher Derrick Henry to only 40 yards on the game.

For Buffalo, they were able to fend off a solid Indianapolis Colts team that was led by veteran signal caller Phillip Rivers. It wasn’t the greatest win that Buffalo has gotten this season, but it was enough to give the team its first playoff win in over 25 years.

They found themselves losing early in the ball game but were able to storm back in the next few quarters, eventually leading by double digits late in the fourth quarter. But the Colts didn’t give up that easily, they fought back into the contest and shrunk the lead down to three points with just under two minutes left in the game.

Rivers led the team to about mid field before eventually running out of time and being forced to chuck up a hail mary while the time expired. That pass had obviously fallen incomplete and the Bills were able to walk away with a victory.

Buffalo was able to put up 27 points against the Colts top five defense with almost all of their success stemming from quarterback Josh Allen, making tons of fantastic plays throughout the entire game.

Their defense also held up for most of the game but ended up giving up far too many points in the fourth quarter and allowing the Colts to keep themselves in the game when the Bills should have put them away.

However, the Bills have been great all season long and should be able to put an end to the Ravens comeback story. Although you never know what you are going to get from this Baltimore team especially when they have such an electric quarterback in Jackson.

I would pick the Bills in this matchup, but this game is definitely going to come down to the last drive, similar to the Bills last playoff game.

Pick: Buffalo Bills

Los Angeles Rams @ Green Bay Packers

Saturday 01/16 – 04:35 PM

NFL Playoff Picks Against the Spread for Divisional Round - Green Bay PackersThe Los Angeles Rams were able to pick up an improbably win against the Seattle Seahawks despite terrible circumstances.

Quarterback Jared Goff entered the game active but was reportedly not going to start the game after getting surgery on his thumb just over a week before the game.

That left backup quarterback John Wolford to get the start as he led the team down the field before getting a scary neck injury that held him out for the game and thrust Goff back into the starting role.

The team followed in the footsteps of running back Cam Akers as he rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown en route to their huge upset win over their division rivals.

Goff struggled throughout the entire game but that is to be expected when you just get surgery on your throwing hand.

It was their defense that was able to make a statement in this game as they got a pick six against Russell Wilson and were able to completely stifle their entire offense throughout the game. They also were able to generate consistent pressure against Wilson even without their superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald as he missed most of the second half before returning in the last few minutes of the game.

It wasn’t a great performance by this team, but they did enough for a date with the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau Field this week.

The Packers got the same treatment as the Chiefs as they were able to work their way into the number one seed in the NFC and the first-round bye, along with home field advantage throughout the postseason.

They were led by leading MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers this season who was able to have a stellar season with almost no reliable receivers outside of star Davante Adams. Rodgers proved all season long that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the game right now and has made this offense look nearly unstoppable heading into this matchup against a top three defense in the entire league.

Their rushing game has also been stepping it up lately as they have begun to involve rookie running back A.J. Dillon a lot more in recent weeks and it has benefited them tremendously.

As for their defense, they have had a lot of trouble stopping the run and may struggle once again with the combination of Cam Akers, Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown. But they have a ton of talent in the secondary and should be able to harass and get after Goff all game and force him into making a few mistakes early on.

I have heard a lot of people say that the Packers will win this game easily due to the Rams inconsistent offense, but I truly believe that this game is going to be far closer than people suggest.

I do think that the Packers will be the winners of this ball game, but the Rams will definitely make it as close as they can and should make it an exciting defensive battle.

Pick: Green Bay Packers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints

Sunday 01/17 – 06:40 PM

NFL Playoff Picks Against the Spread for Divisional Round - Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL betting Picks Week 16The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were able to escape the Washington Football Team with a victory despite not having their greatest performance. Their offense once again looked fantastic as Tom Brady was able to carve up the Washington defense, which happened to be ranked in the top three throughout the season.

While Brady was able to put up 31 points on offense, their defense was able to hold Washington to 23 as they took home the victory and booked themselves a trip to New Orleans to face off against the team that beat them twice this season.

Their rushing attack was great in their last game against Washington even without their starting running back Ronald Jones as he reaggravated an injury in pregame warmups and was held out for the game as a precaution.

Leonard Fournette was able to put together a near 100-yard performance to go along with a touchdown and the team will need every bit of that energy once again against one of the best running stopping teams in football.

However, the Buccaneers defense hasn’t looked that great the last few weeks and that goes for their playoff win as well. Washington had a third string quarterback in the game, and they were able to consistently march their way downfield and come a few plays shy of a game winning touchdown drives to win the game. This defense needs to be a lot more prepared when facing the future Hall of Famer Drew Brees and this deadly offense.

The Saints were able to completely dominate the Chicago Bears during their Wild Card game behind their fantastic defensive performance. That unit was able to shut down the Bears rushing attack which was just starting to gain some traction in the weeks leading up to the game and were also able to stop the play action pass that Mitchell Trubisky has been great at towards the second half of the season.

On the other side of the ball, Brees was able to get Michael Thomas and Deonte Harris back into the lineup for this game and it benefited them greatly as it seemed like there was somebody open almost every play.

The Saints will need to put their best foot forward against a team that they dominated 38-3 the last time they went up against one another. The Buccaneers have been a lot better ever since that loss, but the Saints have gotten a ton of players back and healthy for this matchup in New Orleans.

This has the potential to be the game of the week, but I do not believe that it will be a blow out like the last matchup. However, I am going to take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in this game as Brady has proven to be dominant in a playoff atmosphere and the Saints will not benefit from home field advantage without fans in the stadium.

Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
