Best Picks for Week 9 NFL 2020

There are many enticing matchups in store for Week 9 of the 2020 NFL season. Down below, we will be going over some of the best picks to make through this exciting week of football!

Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers

Thu, Nov 05, 2020 EST

The first game up on the list is the battle between the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers.

Green Bay PackersThe Packers were unable to pull away with a victory in their last matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, losing 28-22 and dropping them to 5-2 on the season.

They were without their star running back Aaron Jones, but Jamal Williams had come in and pieced together a decent performance in his absence.

While Aaron Rodgers continued his excellent season by throwing for 291 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.

Unfortunately, they just weren’t able to contain Dalvin Cook as he ran for 163 yards and three touchdowns while getting a receiving touchdown as well.

They are now visiting a depleted 49ers team last their last game as well by a score of 37-27. The loss dropped them to 4-4 on the year but what hurt them more was the injuries that they sustained in the losing effort.

Starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo reinjured his ankle in the game and should miss the next few matchups while their superstar tight end George Kittle broke a bone in his foot that resulted in him being placed in IR.

If both teams were fully healthy, the 49ers should be the favorites in this matchup due to their dominance over Green Bay last season.

But they just have far too many injuries on their roster to be able to keep up with Rodgers and a high-powered Green Bay offense.

Pick: Green Bay

Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys

Sun, Nov 08, 2020 EST

Next game up is the matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys.

This game just shouldn’t be close. Pittsburgh is currently 7-0 on the season after their huge 28-24 victory over Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in their last game.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Their defense was able to force three fumbles throughout the game as well as intercept Jackson twice.

This was able to push them ahead in a game where their offense really didn’t get much going, as Ben Roethlisberger threw for only 182 yards and two touchdowns while they only mustered 48 yards rushing.

The Steelers have truly looked unbeatable so far in this young season, they get to head over to Dallas to take on the injured and disappointing Cowboys.

Dallas fell to 2-6 on the year after their 23-9 loss at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles this past weekend.

When the season first began, their defense was by far the worst in the league, allowing big play after big play. Now heading into Week 9, that story stays the same as they are still in the bottom five defenses in the league right now.

Although now they have lost Dak Prescott for the season after a gruesome broken ankle and their backup quarterback, Andy Dalton, got a concussion a few weeks ago that will keep him sidelined for a little while longer.

Rookie quarterback Ben DiNucci got the start in their last game and he was unable to cross the 200 passing yard mark in his first start.

He actually showed such little potential that Dallas has already stated that he will not be the starter in this game against Pittsburgh.

This shouldn’t be much of a debate; the Steelers should dominate this game all the way through.

Pick: Steelers

Carolina Panthers at the Kansas City Chiefs

Sun, Nov 08, 2020 EST

Lastly, we have the Carolina Panthers taking on the reigning Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs.

Carolina fell to 3-5 on the season after a disappointing loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night football, losing 25-17.

Kansas City ChiefsThey were able to generate 147 total rushing yards but struggled heavily through the passing game even though the Falcons are statistically one of the worst passing defenses in the league this year.

They also got a huge scare when their quarterback Teddy Bridgewater went down with a neck injury after being getting a cheap shot to the head while falling down.

However, Bridgewater was able to come back into the game towards the fourth quarter and resume playing, meaning that he should be ready to go in this matchup.

Unfortunately, they get a Chiefs team that just won their last game 35-9 against the New York Jets. Patrick Mahomes continued his excellence this season by throwing for 416 yards and five touchdowns, which is just insane.

They had so much success through the air that they rarely even went to the rushing game, only tallying 20 carries in a game that saw them winning the entire time.

The Chiefs should have a far harder time against a young but solid Panthers defense that has seemingly been improving every single week.

The real problem for Carolina is the fact that they will struggle to keep up with Mahomes and the Chiefs high flying offense.

The Panthers may be getting their superstar running back Christian McCaffrey back from injury this week, but they still aren’t a top unit in the league right now.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs have a top five offense this year. They should be able to create mismatches against a very inexperienced Panthers defense in order to put up a ton of points against them.

While the betting line is currently set at the Chiefs being ten-point favorites, this game could easily be a blowout. I would take the Chiefs with confidence here.

It is just impossible to bet against Patrick Mahomes, especially when they face off against an inexperienced defense that had a ton of trouble stopping Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints a few weeks ago.

Pick: Chiefs
