Quick Tips
⭐ Best Bet: Sea Force
⚡ Main Danger: Point Lynas
🎯 Value Play: Cerulean Bay
Race Preview
A deep and competitive renewal of the Hambleton Handicap at York, where course form and luck in running could prove crucial. Several arrive in form, while others look dangerously well handicapped, but a few stand out as particularly well positioned.
Why Sea Force Stands Out
Sea Force shaped like the best horse in the race when unlucky not to win the Thirsk Hunt Cup 12 days ago, repeatedly meeting trouble before finishing strongly into third.
Only 1lb higher here, he still looks favourably treated and now returns for a stable in excellent form. Tom Marquand takes the ride for William Haggas, whose runners continue to fire, and with a clearer passage this time, Sea Force could be very hard to beat.
Main Danger
Point Lynas has an outstanding York record and famously made all in this race in 2024. Stall 1 looks ideal for his front-running style, and despite top weight, he has proven he can thrive around this track.
If allowed any rhythm out front, he could prove extremely difficult to reel in.
Value Play
Cerulean Bay appeals as a strong each-way angle after a pleasing reappearance over 7f, where he stayed on nicely into fourth.
He still looks progressive for this grade, the return to a stiff mile should suit, and David O’Meara’s runners often improve for their first outing of the season.
Others Worth Considering
Shout – talented 4yo who disappointed last time but retains upside for the Crisford team
Walsingham – thriving after a cosy Pontefract win and may not be done improving yet
Maybe Not – lightly raced mare with solid handicap form and room for further progress
Mirsky – arrives in winning form after landing the Thirsk Hunt Cup and remains respected despite a rise

Value Play: Cerulean Bay ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Verdict
Sea Force looks to have unfinished business after an unlucky run at Thirsk and remains attractively weighted for a race of this nature. Point Lynas is feared most given his excellent York record and ideal draw, while Cerulean Bay looks a solid value contender with further improvement likely.
