Vintage Clouds in good shape – Smith

Updated: 19/11/2024

Trainer Sue Smith has revealed her delighted after Vintage Clouds’ (12/1 Randox Grand National outright) place was confirmed for the Randox Grand National and insists he is in good shape.

The nine-year-old is regarded as one of the front runners to scoop the top prize at the £1million race on Saturday.

Vintage Clouds, owned by three-time National winner Trevor Hemmings, missed the cut-off by one place last season, however, there is no danger of that recurring this time around.

He is certain to have a place at Aintree following the latest round of declarations and has risen to number 35 in the official handicap.

Following the withdrawal of Phil Kirby’s Blaklion due to injury, Vintage Clouds will be the sole Yorkshire in the showpiece event, and Smith is upbeat about his chances.

Smith said: “We’re delighted he is in.

“He’s in very good form and has done all his schooling. All we have got to do is wait for Saturday to come round and keep him in good order.”

Meanwhile, David Pipe has announced who will be on board his two runners – Ramses De Teillee and Vieux Lion Rouge.

David Noonan will partner Welsh National runner-up Ramses De Teillee (25/1 Randox Grand National outright), while Tom Scudamore will look to challenge with Vieux Lion Rouge (40/1 Randox Grand National outright).

Pipe said: “Ramses and Vieux Lion Rouge both schooled well over our National style fences and are in great form, although they would both appreciate some rain.

“The weather forecast suggests we may get some.”
