Summer Romance set for Deauville trip

Updated: 27/11/2023

Trainer Charlie Appleby says he is likely to take Qipco 1000 Guineas hopeful Summer Romance (12/1f – Qipco 1000 Guineas) to Deauville for the Prix Six Perfections this month.

The two-year-old has won both of her outings to date and is being tipped as a strong contender for the Qipco 1000 Guineas although the likes of Albigna (16/1 – Qipco 1000 Guineas) and Etoile (20/1 – Qipco 1000 Guineas) are likely to provide a serious challenge.

Her most recent triumph came in the Randox Health Empress Fillies Stakes at Newmarket on June 29 when she romped home six lengths clear of Ursulina.

Connections feel she has a bright future in racing and Appleby is hoping to build on his previous success in the Prix Six Perfections.

The Newmarket trainer won the race 12 months ago with Beyond Reason and will look to do the same with her stablemate on July 27.

Appleby said: “It is probably looking like we are going go for the Six Perfections at Deauville at the end of the month, which is a Group Three over seven furlongs.

“We won the race last year with Beyond Reason, so we know the plan over there. We feel it would fit right into the programme for her.”

Appleby was full of praise for her performance after stepping up to Listed level at Newmarket and insists he is looking forward to another Deauville outing.

He added: “At Yarmouth it was straightforward – and it was very straightforward stepping up in class, so I think stepping up to the seven should suit her.

“She came out of her race well at Newmarket and that will be her next target. I’m very pleased with her and I’m looking forward to Deauville.”
