Nick Luck Previews Day Two of The November Meeting 2018 - (2025)
Updated: 20/01/2025
The opening day of the 2018 November Meeting certainly did not disappoint and our man, Nick Luck, is back with his selections for Day Two at Cheltenham…
1.50 – Vincente 9/1
There are four races at Cheltenham on ITV this Saturday – the first of them is the staying Chase where I think Vicente will run well.
He’s a dual Scottish National winner, still not un-feasibly handicapped on the best of his form and ran a screamer in this race last year on ground that was much too soft for him.
A repeat of that effort on much better ground should see him firmly on the premises and on top of all of this, the yard has been in terrific form.
2.25 – King’s Socks 10/1
I’ve narrowed the feature race of the day down to three.
I like the claims of Rather Be who I think can reverse the form of the Cheltenham Festival with Mr Whitaker and a test of speed at this trip will suit him well.
Movewiththetimes could yet run a bold race, for all he’s not the most straightforward, but the one I’ve come down on is King’s Socks, who was all the rage for a handicap at the Festival and travelled like a dream before fading into fifth.
A sounder surface will help him eek out his stamina and he's also had an extra summer to acclimatise. I’d ignore his last run where the ground was unsuitable and I think he’ll go well.
3.00 – Vieux Lion Rouge 12/1
In the first of the hurdle races on ITV, it’s a very chancy proposition, but there could be more joy for the Pipe team with Vieux Lion Rouge who’s very well handicapped on his form and has had a wind operation since he last ran.
He’s tumbled down the weights and this looks like a much more suitable opportunity than some of the tests he was faced with towards the back end of last year.
3.30 – Speedo Boy 3/1
This is a tricky race where you could craft a case for plenty of these but I’ve been lured once again into Speedo Boy who has been a bit of a bogey horse for me on the flat. He may want further than 2 miles over hurdles, but this autumn ground should suit him well.
He’s been very sparingly campaigned over smaller obstacles and could yet remain significantly ahead of the handicapper.
