    Race Preview

The Coral Golden Mile is one of the highlights of the Glorious Goodwood meeting and another fiercely competitive renewal looks in store. Tribal Chief makes plenty of appeal after a series of strong efforts in major handicaps and could be ready to strike under conditions that suit perfectly.

David Menuisier's five-year-old has an excellent record at Goodwood, winning over this course and distance last season after finishing a close sixth in this race. He's also shaped well in top handicaps this campaign, including placed efforts in the Spring Cup and Royal Hunt Cup, and the booking of Jamie Spencer looks a significant positive. A strong pace and a late challenge have often suited him ideally.

Indalo arrives in outstanding form after finally gaining his deserved success in the Coral Challenge at Sandown. Roger Varian's progressive gelding had previously endured traffic problems in both the Cambridgeshire and Royal Hunt Cup before putting matters right last time. Racing under just a small penalty means he is effectively 2lb well-in and looks the obvious danger despite another rise in class.

Blue Brother is another who commands serious respect. The former French performer caught the eye when fourth in the Royal Hunt Cup on his stable debut despite meeting trouble in running, and that effort suggested he can be very competitive from his current handicap mark. James Doyle retains the ride and further improvement is entirely possible.

Ebt's Guard rarely runs a bad race in these competitive handicaps and was third behind Indalo at Sandown, while Cerulean Bay returns to a track where he boasts a perfect two-from-two record and cannot be overlooked despite top weight.

Scoville is an intriguing contender after wind surgery appeared to have the desired effect in the Royal Hunt Cup, while progressive three-year-old Bunyola Bay receives a valuable weight allowance and could still have plenty to offer.

    Value Angle

Blue Brother appeals as the value selection. His Royal Hunt Cup fourth suggested he remains well handicapped and natural improvement for that first run for Hamad Al Jehani could see him go very close.

    Verdict

Tribal Chief has been knocking on the door in some of the season's strongest handicaps and his proven liking for Goodwood makes him the one to side with. Indalo remains the chief threat after his Sandown success, while Blue Brother looks capable of taking another step forward and offers solid each-way value.
