Elliott cautious on 7/2 Tiger Roll’s National bid - (2025)

Updated: 19/03/2025

Tiger Roll is the 7/2 nrnb favourite with Betfred to win the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree although Gordon Elliott says he will need “a lot of luck” to defend his title.

Elliott’s charge is bidding to become the first horse since the legendary Red Rum in 1974 to win back-to-back Nationals.

The nine-year-old has two wins in two attempts in 2019 and was last seen when landing the Glenfarclas Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last month.

Elliott has 13 runners in the Grand National and says Tiger Roll, who will be partnered by Davy Russell at Aintree, is his strongest contender – but he is taking nothing for granted.

“I couldn’t be happier with them and I’m looking forward to running them all, and hopefully we’ll get a bit of luck,” he told herald.ie.

“They are in good order, and obviously our main chance is with Tiger Roll again.

“I don’t know if he can do it again – everybody that has ever watched the Grand National knows that you need a lot of luck in the race – but I do know I couldn’t be happier with the horse since Cheltenham.”

Elliott’s Outlander is available at 66/1 to win the Grand National, while the Willie Mullins-trained Rathvinden is rated as the most likely candidate to deny Tiger Roll a second successive National win at 10/1.

Odds subject to change.
