Paul Dunne is relishing the match-play format at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth but admits he cannot afford a slow start.

Paul Dunne (8/1 Tournament Outright) says he is enjoying the challenge of tackling a different format as he prepares for the final round of the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth.

The Irishman proved himself to be a dab hand at the revised format, winning last May’s GolfSixes alongside Gavin Moynihan, and has appeared at home at Lake Karrinyup.

Dunne carded a third round of 66 to qualify for Sunday’s match play stages, with his tie for second after 54 holes sealing him a bye through to the last 16.

Having played Walker Cup during his amateur days, the 26-year-old is hardly a stranger to head-to-head golf.

Thomas Pieters (13/2 Tournament Outright) and Ryan Fox (15/2) currently lead the Betfred betting but the Irishman is sure to take some beating.

With fireworks expected over the weekend, Dunne is clearly ready for battle Down Under.

“I like the idea of the format,” he said. “I played at the GolfSixes.

“It’s intense, which is good. You don’t always get a final few holes feeling on the third hole of the day. I think it will be mentally sharp right from the get-go in the morning and just try and make as many putts as you can.

“At the end of the day it’s six holes, anything can happen over six holes. I’ll just try and play my best and hopefully it’s enough.

“It’s a mindset, really, and then you’ve just got to get the breaks at the right time. If you go down, you don’t really have that much time to get back. So take it as it comes, try to hit the right shots at the right time, hole a few putts under pressure.”

Odds subject to change.
