Nuno Espirito Santo's Wolverhampton have had a fantastic recent record against the powerful Manchester City, winning on all three previous occasions they have met.

Hence Pep Guardiola's men will be looking to get their revenge on the Wolves for the last season’s back-to-back defeats when the two teams face each other at the Molineux Stadium on Monday night.

Tactical errors on the part of Guardila like not replacing Vincent Kompany at the back had cost the Citizens a handful of games.

To rectify the situation, the Spanish coach has brought in Dutch defender Nathan Ake from Bournemouth and it is understood that he may form a strong center-back pairing with Aymeric Laporte who is expected to recover from a coronavirus attack.

Top striker Sergio Aguero could make an appearance after returning to training sessions following a  knee injury that kept him out for the final two months of the 2019/20 season.

Santo will have to do without defender Jonny Otto who will be out for a while after sustaining an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in a Europa League fixture against Olympiakos last month.

City finished the 2019-20 Premier League campaign by winning their last five outings, hammering in 21 goals and keeping four clean sheets during that spell.

Wolves on the other hand have started the present season in good form as evinced in their Monday’s 2-0 win over a dour Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, with Raul Jimenez and Romain Saiss scoring goals inside the first 6 minutes.

But there was some disappointment in store for the Wolves as they crashed out of Carabao Cup, losing to Championship side Stoke City 0-1 at the Molineux on Friday – something that could dent their confidence going into Monday's clash with City.

Although impressive in the first-half of the Sheffield game, Nuno Santo’s men showed frailties in the second when put under pressure by the Blades and were lucky to have come out unscathed.

The Wolves will be facing a much more dominant City looking to avenge their 2-3 defeat at the Molineux late last year.

City like to dominate possession and wear teams down and with the quality they have in players like Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Kevin de Bruyne, claiming three points at the Molineux shouldn't be a problem.

Although Wolves have been strong at the back, they were susceptible to set pieces against the Blades last time out and the same could happen against City, who have a lot more quality than Sheffield from dead-ball situations.
