West Brom vs Tottenham Predictions and Preview for October 15, 2016 – The Hawthorns Stadium

The international break this week gives a chance for West Brom manager, Tony Pulis, an opportunity to ponder where things went wrong for the club in their last 2 Premier League outings.

Two 1-1 draws against Table bottom-scrapers, Stoke City and Sunderland, have taken the Baggies couple of places down to the 9th spot. The side's heavy dependence on Nacer Chadli and Salomon Rondon to get goals underlines their measly tally of 8 goals, which is equal to 17th placed West Ham's.

Against a Tottenham side marshaled at the back by the likes of Kyle Walker, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and goalie Hugo Lloris, finding the back of the net will be a big problem. Tottenham have let in just three from their 7 games in the 2016-17 Premier League season so far, which is the lowest among all teams.

West Brom, too, have shown stinginess as far as letting in goals have been concerned (7 goals from their seven games and only more than clubs like Tottenham, Everton and Southampton). However their stoic defense could come apart in the face of a Tottenham attack spearheaded by Erik Lamela, the opportunistic Son Heung-min (the club's top scorer), the brilliant Del Alli and Christian Eriksen.

But the going for the Spurs in their last five encounters with the Baggies haven't been exactly smooth. Their only win was at home at White Hart Lane in Dec 2015, the rest three have been draws and a defeat at the Hawthorns in September 2014.

Mauricio Pochettino's boys in their current form have the ability to reverse this trend. West Brom Albion's only commendable performance this season has been their comprehensive 4-2 win against West Ham United in September, a match that alone accounted for half the goals scored by them so far.

Something on the lines of the West Ham match will be needed by the hosts at the Hawthorns to stop Tottenham from earning three points. Surprises could be in store despite odds being in the favor of the visitors. The Spurs would definitely look for a win on Saturday and hope for a Man City slip-up against Everton. This would probably put them at the top of the points table after the weekend.
