Following goalless draws against Aston Villa & Real Sociedad and just 2 wins from their 6 friendlies the current 2017-18 season, Watford coach Marco Silva isn't feeling confident about taking on Liverpool in their Premier league opener at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

There's not much excitement on the new signings front, either. One of the significant acquisitions has been 22-year old midfielder, Will Hughes, for £8 million from 2nd Division club Derby County. There's every chance that Silva could expose him on the 12th for the Vicarage Road clash. Tom Cleverley from Everton is another midfielder who could feature in Saturday's game. Cleverly will probably have the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Nathaniel Chalobah as company in that space.

Up front for Watford, Argentine Roberto Pereyra has the required versatility to double up as the side's left winger and striker, too. There's not much going around as to what Silva would do with new signings Kiko (from Alaves), Nathaniel Chalobah (Chelsea) and Daniel Bachmann (Stoke).

Meanwhile Watford's costliest acquisition of the season, £11.2-million 20-year old Brazilian striker from Fluminense, Richarlison, could be a mere spectator at Saturday's game as he awaits a work permit to join the club.

Liverpool on the other hand, will in all likelihood have all the usual suspects of the 2016-17 season around for the Watford outing.

Coutinho should be very much around despite noises from faraway Barcelona. Divock Origi who featured for most part of the second half of the previous season, thanks to the injured Adam Lallana, may see himself relegated to the benches once the English international makes a comeback.

Lucas, Can, Wijnaldum will form the midfield core while Clyne, Matip, Lovren and Milner will bring up the back. Lallana, Coutinho and Firminio will be the striking force that will give Jurgen's Klopp's attacking 4-3-3 formation the completeness it needs.

Daniel Sturridge is still on the injury list but Klopp will need him for much bigger occasions than the Watford clash.

Liverpool are in good form going into the Vicarage Road game. They have beaten Athletico Bilbao and Bayern Munich with scores of 3-1 and 3-0 respectively and lost to Atletico Madrid on penalties – all this in as recently as last week.

Watford had marked their re-entry into the Premier League in 2015 after a 7-season gap with a resounding 3-0 win over Liverpool but since then, the Reds have more than avenged that aberration, winning their 3 encounters after that 2-0, 6-1 and 0-1.

Odds are that things may not change for Watford at the Vicarage on Saturday even if though it happens to be a home game for the Hornets.
