After having come out of a 3-1 loss away in Belgium in their WC 2022 qualifications opener, Wales will host a buoyant Czech Republic at the Cardiff City stadium for a critical Group E encounter on Tuesday, March 30th.

The Czech thrashed a hapless Estonia 2-6 to begin their qualification campaign and followed it up with an impressive 1-1 draw against World No.1 outfit Belgium at Prague on Saturday night.

Team News

For the Welsh, Joe Allen had to leave the field early in the loss to Belgium last week and will miss out on the Cardiff game. Wales are hoping to have James Lawrence available for selection here after the defender was to stay back in UK owing to health reasons. Ben Cabango could be a potential replacement for Lawrence at the back if the latter has to miss out against the Czechs. Kieffer Moore, who was benched by caretaker coach Rob Page last week, may be set for a start after scoring in the friendly against Mexico during the weekend.

Czech head coach Jaroslav Silhavy may continue with a 4-1-4-1 setup at Cardiff and may replace Tomas Vaclik with Jiri Pavlenka between the goal posts. Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick could return to lead the attack along with the likes of Tomas Soucek and Lukas Provod to lend support behind him.

Wales starting XI in a 3-4-3 formation: Hennessey (goal); Cabango, Rodon, Mepham; Williams, Ampadu, Morrell, Roberts; James, Moore, Bale;

Czech Republic starting XI in a 4-1-4-1 formation: Pavlenka (goal); Coufal, Kudela, Celutska, Boril; Holes; Provod, Barak, Soucek, Jankto; Schick;

Czech look the more confident side having accrued four points from their two Group E outings so far and are yet to lose to their forthcoming opponents in the international circuit. Four of the previous five encounters between these two sides have ended in draws and odds are on the Cardiff match to end in similar fashion.
