Tough night for the Terriers?

Updated: 05/10/2024

It’s advantage Manchester City in the Premier League title race after their midweek win over Manchester United. But Liverpool can still pile the pressure on their rivals with an emphatic win over Huddersfield Town tonight.

The Reds are a point adrift of the Sky Blues with three matches remaining. All they can do now is lay down a set of markers for Pep Guardiola’s men, who will need to slip-up if the Anfield side are to win the title.

Liverpool still need to do their bit tonight against the division’s bottom club. It’s a match we’ve previewed in our Premier League Tips.

Match Odds

Nigel Farage is more likely to become Prime Minister than Huddersfield are to win at Anfield tonight, according to our traders. The Terriers are 33/1 to end a run of seven straight defeats with all three points.

The Reds are heavily odds-on at 1/16, which means it’s the goal markets which take our interest. Jurgen Klopp’s men have firepower aplenty and are 6/4 to Win with Over 4.5 Goals in the match.

Alternatively, the hosts are 3/1 to score in the opening 10 minutes and 4/7 to Win to Nil against the goal-shy visitors.

Talking Tactics

Klopp could opt to rest key players ahead of next week’s Champions League tie with Barcelona. However, the enigmatic German will want to send out a message to Man City. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah should all start.

Changes may come in the midfield, where James Milner is expected to be drafted in. Naby Keita could also start, while Joe Gomez may be handed his first start since December as the centre-half continues his return from injury.

Huddersfield don’t boast quite the same squad depth as Liverpool, although they do at least have Jonas Lossl back in goal. He’ll command a back-four which may as well be a back-nine with a five-man midfield expected to camp in.

Steve Mounie will be handed the unenviable lone front role for the Terriers, whose best chance of scoring is likely to come from set-piece situations.

Goalscorer Odds

No fewer than four Liverpool players are odds-on to Score Anytime. Salah makes the most appeal out of those after rediscovering his form. He’s 8/15 for his third goal in as many matches against Town.

He’s also 5/2 to Score 2 or More – a price he shares with Mane in the same market. The Reds should have plenty of opportunities from free-kicks and corners tonight too. Virgil van Dijk is 4/1 for his sixth goal of the season.

Punters should also note that Huddersfield have conceded the joint-highest number of penalties this season. Milner is 2/1 to capitalise on that with a goal, while Mounie is the visitors’ best bet for a goal at 4/1.
