Tottenham v Leicester City Preview – Stalemate on the cards as Fox’s visit Spurs - (2025)
Updated: 23/01/2025
Tottenham v Leicester City preview and predictions.
A not very confident Tottenham host the reigning champions on the heels of their exit from the EFL Cup last Tuesday. Spurs have not won any of their four outings since their impressive 2-0 win over Manchester City in early October. Despite dominating possession at Anfield, Spurs had to concede defeat in their EFL clash against Liverpool 1-2. Similar was the case against Bournemouth in previous week’s Premier League clash where the result of a 62 per cent possession rate was a listless 0-0 draw underlining Spurs’ inability to get goals since the exit of their talismanic striker Harry Kane in September owing to injury.
Tottenham now await Claudio Raineri’s men for a Premier League encounter on October 29 at the White Hart lane.
Leicester Analysis
Leicester’s bleak season (much in contrast to the one last year) sparkled briefly at the King Power stadium where they overcame Crystal Palace with a impressive 3-1 win. Lions at home but rats away, that’s what Leicester’s story has been this season. Whether the likes of Islam Slimani,Shinji Okazaki and Ahmed Musa will do an encore of their Crystal Palace performance at the Lane is debatable given their horror show in away games (4 losses so far in thew current 2016-17 season).
Danny Simpson, Wes Morgan and Robert Huth could do well to tighten their defences against a Spurs side that has been low on the scoring front. The Foxes cannot afford to leak in more goals. Of the 15 goals they have conceded from their 9 Premier League fixtures, 13 have come from away games.
Tottenham Analysis
As for Spurs, one of Vincent Janssen’s rare goals for his club from a penalty against Liverpool last Tuesday may not be enough for him to find a place in Pochettino’s starting XI for the October 29 clash.
A identical line-up to the one that featured in the draw against Bournemouth is very likely, viz. Lloris; Vertonghen, Walker, Dier; Rose, Wanyama, Dembele, Eriksen, Lamela,Del Alli; Son Heung-min.
For the hosts, this could be an opportunity to move up the table from the 5th spot they are in currently, down from the commanding 2nd place a fortnight ago.
Given Spurs’ stinginess in conceding goals (just 4 from their 9 outings and not a single one from open play), it looks highly unlikely for the Foxes finding the back of the net at the Lane on Saturday.
In the light of their dismal away games history, things don’t look up for the reigning champions and that is amply illustrated in the betting odds placed by various bookmakers.
