Liverpool's inability to break the stranglehold of the Manchester United defence despite repeated forays into the rival box, would be a cause for concern to coach Jurgen Klopp going into the weekend clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Not to speak of the innumerable chances prolific scorers like Mohamed Salah, Firmino and Coutinho missed to add to the score-sheet. Many would have expected the Reds to capitalize on a United defence that has hardly been tested this season. The Red Devils have conceded just two goals from their eight Premier League outings. Both of those coming from a match against Stoke City. The Anfield clash last weekend was the first time they faced a top-flight club this season.

The Spurs back-line of Kieran Trippier, Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and the incredible Hugo Lloris between the posts have been exemplary this season. Lloris has maintained clean-sheets in as many as six games out of the last eight his team has featured in.

Liverpool's back-line were fortunate not to have been troubled much. The otherwise lethal Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial all having completely off days.

Upfront, the Reds are going to miss the creativity of a Sadio Mane or Adam Lallana. They are both out for some time owing to injuries. Mane's lighting speed on the wings and deft play making outside the box are somethings that got Liverpool so much success in their start to the season. The Senegalese winger's absence is evident from Liverpool's performance in the last four games. Just a solitary win and three draws and a meager five goals to show.

As a result, Liverpool presently find themselves in the 8th spot with 13 points and 4 behind 3rd placed Tottenham. A win at Wembley in the  Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool game is a must for the visitors if they are to come out of this mess.

Tottenham Chances

For the Spurs, this is one venue where they are clearly uncomfortable. Their weekend 1-0 win against Bournemouth was the first Premier League victory of the season at Wembley. Mauricio Pochettino's boys were lucky to have come out unscathed. The visiting Cherries came close to equalizing at least twice.

While Spurs travel to Spain for a tough UEFA Champions’ League Group outing against title-holders Real Madrid, Liverpool made a faraway trip to Slovenia to play Maribor in another UCL Group encounter.

On current form, Spurs look in much better shape than Liverpool. However history is on the side of the visitors who have won in seven of the last ten encounters. The other three have all been drawn. This could one cracker of a game that could go either way.
