Spurs cut to 4/1 for European glory after Etihad thriller

Betfred make Tottenham 4/1 to go on and win the Champions League after knocking out Manchester City in a thrilling all-English quarter-final tie.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are into the semi-finals of the competition despite a 4-3 loss on the night, thanks to away goals in the 4-4 aggregate score, after one of the greatest European ties in recent memory.

City took a very early lead through the in-form Raheem Sterling, which was cancelled out shortly after by Son Heung-Min. The Korean then got his and Spurs’ second of the night just three minutes later.

Just a minute later – yes, a minute – Bernado Silva finds the back of the net and ten minutes later Sterling gets his second, to equal the aggregate score.

Five goals in 21 minutes – unbelievable.

When Sergio Aguero scored just shy of the hour mark, the Blues were dominant and it looked like a sure bet they would kick on and book their spot in the next round.

However, Spurs managed to put themselves back into the driving seat when Fernando Llorente got on the end of a cross (just about), bouncing off his hip and ending up in the back of the net.

If you thought that was the end of the drama – you were wrong.

City found the back of the net just before the 90th minute mark and after yet another, extensive VAR check, it was deemed Sergio Aguero was offside before assisting Raheem Sterling. Spurs emerge victorious and reach their first ever Champions League semi-final.

What a game. What a sport.

Elsewhere, Liverpool took a 2-0 advantage into the second leg of their quarter-final tie with Porto and it’s fair to say it was business as usual for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

They won the tie, despite being pressured in the early stages, 4-1 on the night to take home a 6-1 aggregate win and a place in the semi-finals of the competition for the second year running.

As a result, the Reds have been cut slightly to 5/2 for Champions League glory. Barcelona remain favourites for the competition, at 6/4, while dark horses Ajax are the rank outsiders at 9/2.
