Paul Pogba injury: Will the Manchester United star play against Spurs and Brighton?

Updated: 12/01/2025

Paul Pogba has been the standout player since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the reigns at Old Trafford, scoring back-to-back braces against Bournemouth and Huddersfield.

Alongside his impressive goal tally, the Frenchman has racked up four assists, reminding the Manchester United faithful of his world class talent.

But ahead of this weekend's FA Cup fixture the towering midfielder has picked up a thigh injury which could bring his impressive form to a shuddering stop, creating a headache for the 30 per cent of Fantasy Premier League owners who own the United star.

How serious is the injury?

Pogba was the victim of a rough tackle by Newcastle's Jonjo Shelvey and was visibly pained following the collision.

Solskjaer provided the following vague update about his player's health ahead of United's FA Cup tie with Reading: “I'm not sure if Paul's going to be ready [for Reading], he got a knock against Newcastle.”

Though Pogba may miss out against Reading, there's still plenty of time for him to recover before the Gameweek 22 fixture at Tottenham.

Should I get rid of him from my FPL team?

No.

Bide your time and wait to see if Pogba features in the FA Cup against Reading.

If he doesn't appear against the Royals then wait for a further update from Solskjaer on the midfielder's health.

By the sounds of it the Frenchman will feature against Tottenham unless he picks up a further injury in the build up.

Potential replacements

Not confident of Pogba's fitness? Sign one of these point scoring alternatives.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.2m) has steered Everton’s season thus far, acting as chief playmaker for the Toffees. At £7.2m he is a snip and a superior option to Willian.

Bernardo Silva (£7.5m) has missed just one Premier League fixture this season – remarkable when you consider Pep Guardiola’s tendency to rotate his squad.

Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.1m) won’t start every gameweek, but the diminutive attacker has proved himself a safe bet for points in recent fixtures. In three of his last six games he has scored at least eight points.

i verdict

Pogba has shown real quality in recent Gameweeks and rewarded FPL managers with three double digit totals in four Gameweeks.

Keep him in your side for now, but keep an eye out for further updates on his fitness from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
