Manchester United vent Fury as Garth Crooks labels Ander Herrera most “irritating player in Premier League”

Updated: 14/09/2024

Ander Herrera netted the deciding goal in Manchester United's semi-final victory over Tottenham last weekend. The Spanish striker was the star of the show in Manchester United's FA Cup semi-final win over Tottenham at Wembley Stadium.

After Dele Alli put Spurs ahead, Alexis Sanchez pegged them back with a headed effort, before Herrera fired past Michel Vorm from distance to book the Red Devils a place in this season's final.

Herrera, who was understandably heralded by United supporters after the game, has a bit of a reputation for winding up rival players on the pitch, and was slammed by Crooks in his BBC Team of the Week column.

Crooks wrote: “I find Ander Herrera the most irritating player in the Premier League. He looks like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. “But if he's not pulling your shirt, he's leaving his foot in on his opposite number and if anyone touches him he goes down as if he's been poleaxed.

“Against Spurs in the FA Cup semi-final, Herrera did all of those things and much more.

“He took care of Mousa Dembele in the first half and then imposed himself on the rest of the game.

Harry Kane hits out at claims he ‘came back too early' after injury and says he'll be at his best for World Cup 2018. “In fact, he seemed to be everywhere. For your performance to be so infectious and yet somehow remain on the field takes some doing. I suppose that's what Jose Mourinho calls a winning mentality.”

Unsurprisingly, Manchester United fans weren't best pleased with what Crooks had to say, and took to Twitter to hit back.
