Liverpool are in red hot form having come out of an astonishing 0-5 away win over an in-form Serie A side Atalanta away in Bergamo, Italy while City too have sent clear signals across with an emphatic 3-0 home win over Greek side Olympiacos in mid-week Champions' League fixtures.

Gabriel Jesus marked his return from injury and took just 12 minutes to find the back of the net in the win over Olympiacos.

The Brazilian is very much in contention to start in the side's attack along with Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden in a frontal three.

Sergio Aguero is unlikely to be back in action soon while Benjamin Mendy and Fernandinho are also ruled out of Sunday’s clash.

Apart from this, Pep Guardila has no injury concerns as such. The signing of Ruben Dias from Benfica seems to have made an impact on City's defense.

After their 2-5 drubbing at home to Leicester City, Guardiola's men have conceded just three goals in six matches since then with Dias at the back.

The good thing for City is that the 23-year old center-back has seen his partnership with Aymeric Laporte blossom big time. But their real test will come over the weekend against an attack that has found its peak form.

Diogo Jota with his incredible hat-trick against Atalanta last Tuesday will be knocking on the doors of Jurgen Klopp's starting XI and could well replace a jaded Roberto Firmino, giving company to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane upfront.

Klopp has injury concerns with Virgil Van Djik and Fabinho absent for quite some time in the defense. Key players Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita seem doubtful too.

Manchester City predicted line-up in a (4-3-3) formation:

Ederson (goal); Walker, Ruben Dias, Laporte, Joao Cancelo; De Bruyne, Rodri, Gundogan; Foden, Jesus, Sterling

Liverpool predicted line-up in a (4-3-3) formation:

Alisson (goal); Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Matip, Robertson; Keita, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Mane, Jota, Salah

Manchester City v Liverpool Verdict

Man City have won their last 3 home Premier League outings against Liverpool by an aggregate score of 11-1.

But Guardiola's history against Klopp is poor having lost 8 times to the German, more than he has against any other manager in his career.

Liverpool are looking to keep their first clean sheet in 11 EPL outings at the Etihad having conceded 26 goals from their previous 10 trips to the venue.

Thus history favours the hosts at Etihad on Sunday as the UK bookmaker‘s odds suggest.

But then, Liverpool have rarely been so well-prepared to win as they are this time around. So, expected a real thriller.
