2020-21 EPL Preview: Leeds United vs. Everton – Elland Road – Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021 – 17:30 hrs

Carlo Ancelotti's Everton visit Elland Road for a critical tie with Leeds United who are on a high after a morale-boosting 1-3 win over Leicester City last weekend away at King Power stadium.

The Toffees' confidence on the other hand took a beating after a shock 0-2 loss to bottom-half side Newcastle that has seen them slip to the 8th spot. Everton though are still a safe 4 points away from their Wednesday rivals and more comfortingly have a game in hand.

Leeds United Premier League form: L/D/L/W/W/L

Everton Premier League form: W/W/L/W/D/L

As for team news from the Leeds camp, winger Raphinha, who took a knock in the Leicester game looks doubtful for a start and so does forward Rodrigo. Hence coach Marcelo Biesla may hand starts to Mateusz Klich and Helder Costa while defenders Robin Koch and Diego Llorente will remain out owing to knee and muscle injuries.

As for Everton, Fabian Delph, Allan and Jean-Philippe Gbamin still remain sidelined. Ancelotti may still choose to go with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford despite the custodian's poor show in recent games. The Everton coach may effect some changes with the likes of Mason Holgate, Andre Gomes and Ben Godfrey all in contention for the starting XI.

Leeds United probable starting XI in a 4-1-4-1 formation:

Illan Meslier (goal); Ezgjan Alioski, Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk, Luke Ayling; Kalvin Phillips; Stuart Dallas, Mateusz Klich, Helder Costa, Jack Harrison; Patrick Bamford

Everton probable starting XI in a 4-2-3-1 formation:

Jordan Pickford (goal); Ben Godfrey, Michael Keane, Yerry Mina, Mason Holgate; Andre Gomes, Abdoulaye Doucoure; Lucas Digne, James Rodriguez, Richarlison; Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Despite the significant points gap between the two opponents, Leeds will look the more confident side going into the Elland Road clash. Besides that, with their high tempo attacking game led by the omnipresent figure of top scorer Patrick Bamford and likes of Jack Harrison and Stuart Dallas giving him company upfront, the visitors will have to be on their toes all the time.

But with players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, James Rodriguez and Richarlison upfront, Everton will time and again probe a leaky Leeds defense that has conceded more goals than any other side barring West Brom this season.

Moreover, the Toffees with six wins out of nine in away games look a comfortable side on the road. A draw looks the more likely outcome with a slight bias towards the home side as the odds below would suggest.
