Jarrod Bowen to Tottenham? Meet the 22-year-old Hull winger attracting Premier League attention

Updated: 12/12/2024

Things have not been rosy since Hull's relegation to the Championship back in 2017, but Jarrod Bowen is a bright spark during a difficult period for the Tigers.

Chipping in with some key goals as his club avoided relegation to England's third tier last term, Bowen has helped propel Hull up the table over the last month with his contributions important in taking four wins from four games in December.

Unsurprisingly, Bowen has been no stranger to transfer speculation whenever he has been scoring goals, with names such as Swansea, Brighton, Leeds and even Tottenham mentioned over the course of the last year or so.

Here's everything you need to know about the man in question:

Jarrod Bowen in brief

After netting 14 goals last season, Bowen has kicked on in impressive fashion during the 2018-19 campaign. At the turn of the year, the Englishman already has 10 goals to his name after scoring six times in December. For a Hull side that would want to retain his services, his run of form is ill-timed.

Making just one start in the Premier League before Hull's relegation, Bowen has become a key man over the last two seasons. With Kamil Grosicki threatening off the left flank and Bowen deployed on the right, opposing full backs have had plenty to worry about in the Championship.

Netting braces against Queens Park Rangers, Swansea and Leeds in recent weeks, as well as popping up with two assists, Bowen has never been so productive.

What would Bowen offer a Premier League club like Spurs?

Hard work, determination and a sprinkling of flair. Mauricio Pochettino's side looked jaded during their recent league defeat against Wolves, in part down to having a shallow squad which doesn't lend itself to rotation – especially amidst an injury crisis.

Adkins has previously complimented the graft that Bowen is prepared to put in, as the right winger does not shirk defensive responsibility and will track back to do the less attractive side of the game.

Strong with his left foot and capable of providing good deliveries from wide areas, the 22-year-old has a good mix of energy, end product and a few tricks up his sleeve. Though he is not the quickest, the youngster has the close control and awareness to protect possession well and enough acceleration to earn the vital yard from his marker which is needed to shoot or deliver.

Not only that, but his goalscoring return for a wide forward is very impressive. Given that Hull have been in poor shape over the last two seasons, it would beg the question of just what Bowen could offer in a more productive and creative side.

Ready to take the leap?

Willing to put in the hard yards, as well as having shown the capability to have a decisive impact on tight games, the 22-year-old is showing what he can do when allowed to use his impressive left foot from a starting position on the right. Keen to drive at his man and worry full backs in one-versus-one situations, Bowen's bustling presence could be useful off the bench.

After James Maddison and David Brooks have both shown that young British talents can impress from the very off in the Premier League, Bowen has the right mentality to be the next to take the leap from the second tier's steady conveyor belt of talent.
