Euro 2020 qualifier preview: England vs Bulgaria – Wembley Stadium – Saturday, September 7, 2019 – 17:00 BST
Away from the action of Premier League, it's time for the 2020 Euro qualifiers that will take up most of this weekend with as many as 53 nations playing all over the continent.
England and Bulgaria face each other at the Wembley on Saturday to decide their fates for the 2020 European Cup. The Three Lions are comfortably placed with wins in both their fixtures so far. After thrashing Czech Republic 5-0 and Montenegro 5-1, England are poised to repeat a similar feat against the visiting Bulgarian side and cement their place in the Euros.
By contrast, Bulgaria are in a hopeless situation not having won a single of their 4 qualifying outings – 1-1 draws with Montenegro and Kosovo earlier in March, a 1-2 loss to Czech Republic and a 2-3 home loss to the Kosovars in their return fixture. As a result, they have garnered just 2 points, hence relegating them to the bottom of the Group A. Their defence have let them down badly in every outing thus putting the heavy burden of getting goals on Ivelin Popov and Ismail Isa both of whom were incidentally on the scoresheet against Czech Republic and Kosovo in June.
As for the hosts, youngsters Tyrone Mings, James Maddison and Mason Mount are vying for their first international caps. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is back in the fold after a long injury, looking to play his first game since a friendly against Italy in March 2018. United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be out of action at Wembley owing to a back injury.
Raheem Sterling has scored four of England's 10 goals during qualification so far and should start against alongside captain Harry Kane upfront.
For a not very high-profile fixture like the one with Bulgaria, manager Gareth Southgate may choose green horns like Maddison and Mount to start. Maddison in fact could be a perfect replacement for Wan-Bissaka. The England coach is likely to start with Borussia Dortmund wonder kid Jaden Sancho to start in place of Marcus Rashford in the company of Kane and Sterling in an upfront role.
England Starting Line up
So, the England predicted XI playing in a 4-3-3 formation could look like this: Pickford (goal), Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Maguire, Rose, Rice, Winks, Sancho, Kane, Sterling.
England vs Bulgaria Predictions
Odds for a correct score prediction are 4/1 for a 3-0 win.
But don’t rule out both sides to score in which scenario a score line of 4-1 could become a possibility. The odds for that senario to occur are a hefty 16/1 and worth a saver bet.
