In a Minsk derby, Energetik BGU and FC Minsk face each other at the RCOP-BGU Stadium on Sunday, April the 5th. Both clubs of the Belarussian capital have managed to maintain a cent per cent record, winning both their opening two matches of the season.

Energetik BGU who somehow survived relegation in the 2019 season, made a thunderous start to the ongoing one with an unexpected 3-1 trouncing of runners-up BATE Borisov.

Jasur Yakhshiboev with a brace and Dusan Bakic adding a third late in the game helped complete the rout of BATE.

Vladimir Belyavski’s men followed that up with a 1-0 away triumph over FC Rukh Brest, the lone goal coming from a Daniil Miroshnikov header.

FC Minsk on the other hand were able to overpower 2019 Belarus First League champions FC Belshina 1-3 away at Bobruisk but struggled to beat a 10-man Dinamo Minsk 3-2 in the game that followed a week later.

For Energetik, left back Artem Sokol, winger Jasur Yakhshiboev and striker Junior Atemengue made their debuts in the win over BATE and their difference to the side is clearly being felt.

Yakhshiboev has already made his presence felt with his 2 goals against BATE while 21-year old Liberian midfielder David Tweh produced two assists in the game. Along with captain Aleksey Nosko, Tweh make up a strong central midfield duo.

For Minsk, Dmytro Ryzhuk and Aleksey Zaleskiy are two new signings who are likely to start in the defence. Eighteen-year-old left back Dmitri Prishchepa has returned to the club after spending 6 months on loan at Zenit II and will feature in the left wing-back position in coach Andrey Razin’s back three formation.

Energetik-BGU play a more attacking brand of soccer than many of the teams of the Belarus Premier League and will definitely miss the scoring power of someone like Ilya Shkurin who moved to CSKA Moscow this year.

Of the just 5 times these two sides have met so far, Energetik-BGU have won three, lost one and the remaining fixture was  a drawn game.

Their last encounter with Minsk was a 3-3 draw at home. Despite losing Ilya Shkurin, Vladimir Belyavski’s Energetik have the wherewithal to beat any side in the BPL.

Andrey Razin’s men are in fine fettle and have banged in as many as 6 goals in their two recent wins.

The goals have come from 5 different players, a testimony itself to the firepower they have in their ranks – which is why the new betting sites UK odds could slightly be in favour of the visitors to the RCOP-BGU Stadium on Sunday.

Expect this one too be a fast-paced and enthralling encounter with goals coming at either end.
