Can Everton end their Merseyside derby blues? - (2025)
Updated: 19/01/2025
The fine weather has come to an end, but that’s all the more reason to get in front of a television this afternoon.
That’s because we’ve got a top trio of Premier League games to feast on. Leicester begin their new era under Brendan Rodgers in the day’s opener, before Scott Parker takes charge of Fulham’s home clash with Chelsea.
Then it’s off to Goodison Park, where Everton will be desperate to stunt Liverpool’s title charge in the 233rd Merseyside derby.
So stick around for all the key odds and talking points…
Watford v Leicester
The day’s opening game could be the pick of the bunch with both sides aiming for comfortable top-10 finishes.
It’s the Hornets who are favourites for this one at 7/5, with the Foxes 19/10 to hand new boss Rodgers a debut win.
Watford’s last two league games have seen them score five and concede six, while Leicester’s last three have seen 12 goals scored in total.
There’s 19/5 about Watford to win and Both Teams to Score, with 9/2 for Leicester to prevail with Both goalkeepers beaten.
It’s 3/4 for both teams to score, while 12/5 says we see over 3.5 goals at Vicarage Road.
Jamie Vardy never suited Claude Puel’s style of football, and could be unleashed under Rodgers. The Leicester striker is 7/2 favourite to score first, ahead of Watford’s Andre Gray at 5/1.
Fulham v Chelsea
Caretaker coach Parker could face a baptism of fire in his Fulham bow, as they host a somewhat rejuvenated Chelsea side.
The Blues have picked up form since that 6-0 thrashing at Manchester City a month ago, and are 8/15 to win this West London derby. And should Fulham’s defence (the leakiest in the league) struggle again, there’s 11/8 about Chelsea -1.
Fulham haven’t won any of their last 18 against Chelsea, and are out at 5/1 to end that run this afternoon.
This could be an ideal fixture for Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine hit a fine double against Huddersfield Town last month and is 16/5 favourite to net first, alongside Eden Hazard.
Aleksandar Mitrovic is deemed the Cottagers’ best chance of breaking the deadlock at 5/1.
Everton v Liverpool
It’s been a long old time since Everton beat Liverpool. Nearly 10 years in fact since Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta scored in a 2-0 win over the Reds at Goodison Park in 2010.
The Toffees would love to dent Liverpool’s title bid, but they are 9/2 outsiders despite being on home soil.
Jurgen Klopp’s men were at their best in a 5-0 thrashing of Watford on Wednesday night. The Anfield side are 8/13 to continue their Merseyside dominance.
Everton haven’t drawn any of their last 12 matches, but with five of their last six derbies at Goodison ending all-square, there’s 14/5 about a draw.
Mo Salah is 16/5 favourite to score first, ahead of Sadio Mane at 4/1. Richarlison heads up the Everton players at 7/1, while Virgil van Dijk is 9/1 anytime after scoring twice on Wednesday night.
A 90th-minute goal handed Liverpool a 1-0 win at Anfield in December’s reverse meeting, and 16/1 says the Reds’ first goal comes between the 81st minute and full-time once again.,
