Brighton boosted by Wolves shut out

Updated: 19/09/2023

Chris Hughton has urged his Brighton players to put in a performance at Tottenham that will tell the fans they could not have given any more.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton says his side’s clean sheet at Wolves on Saturday has provided a much needed confidence boost ahead of Tuesday’s tough trip to Tottenham (Tottenham 4/11, draw 4/1, Brighton 10/1 – Premier League Match Betting).

Albion claimed a vital point at Molineux over the weekend to move three points clear of Cardiff in 18th spot, with the Bluebirds beaten by title-chasers Liverpool on Sunday.

Brighton can put further distance between themselves and the drop zone if they get a result in their game in hand at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – but Hughton is well aware his side will have to be at their very best to deny Spurs all three points.

“The clean sheet was well-needed, especially after the last few games, it will give the whole back line a lot of confidence,” he told the club website.

“It can give us a lift, the emphasis when you go to a side like Tottenham is always that you’ve got to be tight as a unit and restrict their opportunities because of their attacking options.

“Saturday would have lifted us and now we need to respond again with a performance that you can look back on and say we couldn’t have given any more.”

He added: “They’re a top-quality side, but there has to be hope in every game that we go into – irrespective of a record or form, we will never go into a match thinking we can’t get a result.

“There have been enough good results around this division which indicate that, we will have to play as well as we can and rely on them not having the best of days.”

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs have won all three of their home games since leaving Wembley and have yet to concede at their new stadium.

Brighton are 7/1 to keep a clean sheet on Tuesday, while Spurs are 21/20 to win to nil as they bid to secure a top-four finish.

Odds subject to change.
