Borussia Dortmund 2 Sevilla 2 – Borussia Dortmund wins 5-4 on aggregate

Erling Haaland scored a brace, becoming the fastest and youngest player to reach 20 goals in the Champions League, helping Borussia Dortmund to draw level with Sevilla and progress to the quarter-finals on a 5-4 aggregate.

The young Norwegian needed just 14 matches to reach the 20-goal mark, 10 fewer than the previous record holder, Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane. He is also a year younger than Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe who reached that mark just short of his 22nd birthday

The 20-year-old Haaland opened the scoring at the Signal Iduna Park in the 35th minute from Marco Reus's pull-back to make the easiest of tap-ins past goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. But it was the visitors from Spain who looked the much more dangerous side with Lucas Ocampos testing Dortmund goalkeeper Marwin Hitz early and then playing the ball through Emre Can's legs to set up Suso who fired narrowly wide as the score went 1-0 into half-time.

Haaland displayed a lot of power to score his second after the break from a tight angle, but the goal was ruled out by VAR because the Norwegian was adjudged to have fouled Fernando in the build-up to his attempt.

However, a penalty was awarded for an earlier infringement on Haaland by Jules Kounde, who had been seen pulling his jersey while the former was trying to receive a Reus cross. Bounou saved Haaland's spot-kick, then the forward's second effort from the rebound, but VAR intervened again and ordered one more penalty as the Sevilla custodian was found moving too early off his goal line.

The penalty was taken again with Haaland finally slotting home to give Dortmund a 5-2 advantage in the tie in the 54th minute.

Sevilla kept their hopes alive through a Youssef En-Nesyri penalty in the 68th minute, before the Moroccan striker's powerful header deep in added time made the final moments very nervy for Dortmund. The Bundesliga side however held on to the finish and qualify on the back of the three away goals they had scored away in Spain.
