Andy Robertson injury update: Will Liverpool defender be fit to face Bournemouth?

Updated: 18/09/2024

He's been a key part of a Liverpool defence that has conceded just five Premier League goals so far this season, and the first line of attack on his flank.

But now Andy Robertson which already saw him miss Liverpool's midweek fixture against Burnley

And it's not just Liverpool fans who will be sweating on his fitness – 31.5 per cent of Fantasy Premier League players own the Scot.

How serious is the injury?

The good news for Reds fans and FPL players is that the full-back's injury doesn't appear to be serious.

Speaking via Liverpool's official website, Jurgen Klopp said: “Hopefully all the rest will be okay. Robbo I think has a dead leg, his hip, so in the moment we have to see.

“Of course, we play in three days, that's really hard, but tonight we don't have to think about that. We celebrate, go home, [have a] proper sleep. Tomorrow, recovery, and then we'll make ourselves ready for Burnley.”

Should I get rid of him?

No.

Judging by Klopp's initial verdict it sounds like Andy Robertson will be in contention for Gameweek 16.

The full-back has been one of the most reliable FPL points providers this season, scoring at least five points in nine out of 14 Gameweeks.

Potential replacements

In many ways Trent Alexander-Arnold has been as impressive as Roberton this season (Getty Images)

If you do decide to punt Robertson, consider replacing him with one of these points magnets.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.3m) has mirrored Andy Robertson's performances on Liverpool's left flank. The Englishman is also a far cheaper option than his Scottish counterpart.

Aymeric Laporte (£6.1m) has been a vital part of Man City's sturdy defence this season, playing every minute of the reigning champions' campaign so far. Expect him to feature prominently during the winter months.

Patrick Van Aanholt (£5.4m). The Eagles are set to embark on a kind run of fixtures, facing Brighton, West Ham and Fulham in the next three gameweeks. Recruit the Dutchman if you’re after a good value defender.

i verdict

Don't make any knee-jerk decisions over Robertson's future just yet.

The Liverpool right-back has been a reliable performer for FPL players all season and should be in contention for Gameweek 16.
