Tom Scudamore: “Everything points to a very big run from Rathlin Rose.”

Top jockey looks ahead to his weekend rides

I started the year as I mean to go on with a treble at Exeter on New Year’s Day.

It was tremendous and I was delighted. They are three nice young horses too. It was a really good day.

I was thrilled with White Moon. The way he went and jumped the last four fences was so encouraging.

He’d had that bad fall at Cheltenham so to see him go and do that was terrific, and his previous Exeter race has worked out really well too.

Saturday – Sandown

12.15 – Fukuto

You pronounce the horse ‘fookootoo’. I keep having to tell my children that’s how it’s pronounced as they think it’s hilarious. They are very excited about the horse because of its name.

He won his race in France, I’ve spoken to David Bridgwater and he’s very happy with him. He’s got carry a penalty but I think he should go very well.

1.20 – Dream Bolt

He ran okay in a decent race at Ascot last time. This is a slight drop in terms of standard of race. I’d like to think he’ll have an each way chance in this.

3.00 – Rathlin Rose

All the conditions should really suit the horse. Three miles around Sandown is perfect.

He was impressive when he won his Veterans’ Chase at Ascot back in April, and he has a tremendous record around Sandown.

His stamina was just stretched when he ran in the Whitbread even though he ran very well for a long way. Everything points to a very big run.

These races are a fantastic initiative to give these older horses a chance for a decent prize. Rathlin Rose would be my best chance of the day, although all three have chances.

Sunday – Plumpton

2.40 – The Tin Miner

He’s only got ten stone so it’s going to be a quiet weekend for me! He has form around Plumpton having won and been second round there.

The top weight is probably the one to beat, Two Amigos. Three and a half miles around there should be fine for my horse and I’m looking forward to riding him. He must have a good each way chance.
