Three reasons why Denis Suarez can take the Premier League by storm

Updated: 18/11/2024

Barca boy ready for Prem return

Denis Suarez has finally completed a loan move to Arsenal this month, and the Barcelona attacker may believe he’s got unfinished business in England.

It’s not his first taste of the English game – Suarez was snared from his homeland when Manchester City added him to their pool of exciting young talent in 2011.

However, he was prized away by Barcelona before he’d even kicked a ball in anger in the City first team.

But after a magical mystery tour of La Liga, it looks like he’s coming back for another crack at the Premier League.

With Arsenal at 13/5 to secure a top-four spot, we take at why he could be at success at the Emirates Stadium…

Versatility

This can often be a blessing and a curse. Suarez is capable of playing both centrally and out on the left-hand side.

But at Arsenal this flexibility could work in his favour. Since selling both Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the Gunners haven’t had anyone to rule the flanks.

In the current squad, only Alex Iwobi is considered an out and out winger. The other, Reiss Nelson is on loan at Hoffenheim.

His signing would give an extra dimension to the attack, which has often been played through full-backs Sead Kolasinac and the now crocked Hector Bellerin.

Suarez’s composure and intelligence could prove vital – a potential link-up with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could really excite the fans.

Emery-connection

The midfielder is still only 25-years-old and has already played for five clubs in two different leagues.

He’s never settled at one club. However, the man who really believed in Suarez was Unai Emery.

The Spaniard played 47 times for Emery whilst on loan at Sevilla in the 2014-15 season.

He could play in a number of formations including 4-4-2 or across a three-man attack in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

Suarez would only have a season in Seville before moving to Villarreal to work under progressive coach Marcelino.

But it was Emery who gave him his first taste of the big time and Suarez is someone he still holds in high regard.

Unfinished Business

His City adventure was fleeting – only briefly appearing in a couple of a League Cup game in the 2012-13 season.

Having been on the periphery at Barcelona this season, he’ll be champing at the bit for first-team football.

The wiry midfielder will have to out-muscle the likes of Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the hierarchy.

But with Arsenal still in the hunt for a top-four spot and 6/1 second favourite to land the Europa League, Suarez could prove the missing piece in the Emery jigsaw.

The 25-year-old could even be in the squad for the Gunners match at Manchester City on Sunday.

After City’s loss to Newcastle United in midweek, Arsenal are 9/1 to bag the victory.
