Three men who can have a huge say in Tottenham v Chelsea

Updated: 14/04/2024

London rivals meet on Saturday night

The Premier League roars back into life this weekend, with the headline fixture coming from Wembley as Tottenham Hotspur host Chelsea.

It’s a fixture which has become one of the most thrilling yet fiercely contested battles in recent times. Top-four spots and title challenges have been on the line.

There should be more of the same this Saturday night. The consensus is that Spurs haven’t played well this season, while Chelsea thrived under Maurizio Sarri, yet just one point separates the two teams.

Our traders can barely split the teams in the betting. Spurs are 33/20, with Chelsea 31/20. It could come down to a moment of individual brilliance. Here are three men who could conjure it…

Eden Hazard

An injury niggle has somewhat stemmed his scintillating start to the season, but Eden Hazard remains Chelsea’s finest forward.

The Belgian has hit new heights under Sarri this season, and few players on the planet are as dangerous when running with the ball at pace. It doesn’t matter which side or foot he’s on either, Hazard can score with either boot at will.

Can the Tottenham defenders handle it? They’ve allowed Hazard to score against them five times in the past.

Christian Eriksen

Tottenham’s midfield maestro has been eased back into action after injury, but he should be fully fit by the weekend.

Eriksen directly contributed 21 Premier League goals for Mauricio Pochettino’s side last season. His wondrous ability to whip a ball in or play a slide-rule pass is key to Tottenham’s success.

The Dane will be out to control find the space in between Chelsea’s midfield and defence. If he succeeds, Spurs could thrive. Eriksen’s dead-ball talent will concern Sarri too.

Harry Kane

Tottenham’s skipper might not have the grace and flair of Hazard or Eriksen, but nobody in the Premier League is more clinical.

The Englishman is always on the prowl, and showed his potency with crucial touches for his country with a goal and an assist versus Croatia.

If Chelsea’s defence lose focus for a second, Kane will be in.
