This week in the NBA: Porzingis, Davis and LA Lakers all feature

Updated: 14/12/2024

Odds and preview of the NBA action

Every week seems to be a busy one in the NBA.

But amid the excitement around the Super Bowl, the basketball has wrestled for the limelight by making headlines throughout the week.

LA Lakers featured heavily throughout a hectic seven days, whether it was Ivica Zubac hitting his stride or the latest trade talk.

But it’s not all about Los Angeles this week as we delve into the heart of the National Basketball Association.

Trading Places

Kristaps Porzingis may have been on the injury table this season, but the New York Knicks star is now officially a Maverick.

The Latvian big-man is a restricted free-agent this summer, with the Dallas Mavericks securing his services for the 2019-2020 campaign.

Porzingis has the potential to be an MVP contender, and will hope he can form an exciting European-duo with rookie of the year favourite Luka Doncic.

The teams’ odds should look a lot shorter next year, than the 125/1 they are to win this year’s Western Conference.

AD – Life after Davis for Pelicans

Arguably even bigger news is the wantaway Anthony Davis finally declaring his intentions of New Orleans Pelicans.

We’ve already discussed the possibility of A.D teaming up with LeBron James in L.A.

But after Lakers floated the idea of Kyle Kuzma, Rajon Rondo, Lonzo Ball and Marcus Beasley all being traded to New Orleans – things are now getting serious.

Davis has finally admitted it’s time to move on as he’s ‘all about legacy’ – playing alongside ‘Bron is perhaps the best schooling towards a glittering career.

Will Golden State Warriors be able to maintain their dominance with a rejuvenated Lakers around in 2020?

Put some respect on their names

After we weighed up the All-Star selections last week, it has since been announced that two of the sports era-defining men are making an appearance.

Dwyane Wade narrowly missed out on a spot – but the fans have got their way after he was given an all-star slot by order of NBA commissioner Adam Silver.

He was joined by long-serving Mavericks hero Dirk Nowitzki.

Both players are NBA Champions and NBA Finals MVP’s who transcend the game in their unwavering longevity.

We also must shed light on Lakers youngster Zubac – who may still be part of a deal for Davis, but lit up his side’s game over Oklahoma City Thunder on a 26-point night.

He’s one to keep an eye on for sure.
