Super Bowl LIII Preview: Tips, stats and key men for LA Rams v NE Patriots - (2025)

Pats looking to make amends for SB LII defeat
Super Bowl LIII is just around the corner, and this year, Los Angeles Rams face off against New England Patriots at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday.
Ahead of the showdown on Sunday, we’ve been looking at all the info to bring you what we think you need to know before kick-off.
Here’s the key info and what to expect from the NFL showpiece…
Head-to-head
New England Patriots have faced the Rams 13 times in different variations of the organisation, whether they hail from St. Louis or Los Angeles.
Patriots have picked up more victories in the fixture, winning eight to the Rams five.
Most recently, Patriots ran out 26-10 winners at the Gillette Stadium in December 2016, and have won each of the last five match-ups.
Rams have faced the Pats once in a Super Bowl previously in 2002 at SB XXXVI. The Massachusetts outfit ran out 20-17 winners at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.
Super Bowl Record
The Pats are into the showpiece final for the third successive year, winning one and losing out last year to Philadelphia Eagles.
They are head and shoulders above the Rams in terms of Super Bowl experience, as the LA-based side will only be making their fourth appearance in the outfits’ history.
Last time the Rams appeared in the Super Bowl, they were based in St.Louis and they lost out to the Patriots in New Orleans at SB XXXVI. This will be their first appearance since 2002.
Both sides have previously won the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Rams have claimed it once, back in 2000 where they beat the Tennessee Titans 23-16 in Atlanta. Could this be a good omen for the Rams to pick up their second championship in Georgia?
Pats will be looking to put the disappointment from Super Bowl LII behind them and regain the championship they relinquished last year in Minnesota. They’ll fancy their chances against a Rams side that lack post-season game experience.
Can the experienced heads of Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Coach Bill Belichick out-smart and out-battle the new breed of Jared Goff, Todd Gurley and Coach Sean McVay?
Key Battles
For either team to stand a chance of winning, they’ll need to suffocate the opposition quarterback and not allow them to dictate the play.
Goff and Brady have had decent seasons and have been instrumental to their side’s getting to the Super Bowl.
Brady doesn’t seem to be slowing down with age. Now 41, he’s still managed to amass 4,355 throwing yards in the regular season, seventh best in the league.
Goff managed to top that, and finished with the league’s fourth-highest passing yards. The Rams QB managed to notch 4,688.
The offence isn’t just about the quarterbacks. The receivers have got to be on top of their game too. Rams running back Gurley completed 21 touchdowns during the regular season. With only four of those coming off the pass, the Pats will need to be aware of shutting Gurley’s rushes down.
Patriots’ running back James White scored the most touchdowns in the regular season for his side. What’s more is seven of those came from the pass, and Brady will be looking for his intricate runs to gain yards in Atlanta.
The offensive pack of the Pats have the potential to stop down the Rams defence and give Brady the time and space he needs to work his magic.
If they put in a performance like they did against Kansas City Chiefs, stopping a team with 52 regular season sacks from even making one in their match-up, we could be looking at a Patriots rout.
Match Odds
The experienced heads of the Patriots are favourites on the Money Line, with Belichick’s men priced at 8/11 to get the job done.
The Rams may look back to Super Bowl XXXIV for inspiration. With a Super Bowl on the line again in Atlanta, they’re 23/20 to win their second Vince Lombardi Trophy in the Peach State.
Many are calling this as a narrow margin of victory, with the favourite winning margin being predicted at four points. The Rams are 3/1 to win the match by 1-6 points, with the Patriots coming in at 27/10.
Recent history suggests this won’t be a high scoring affair. Our traders have priced less than 56.5 points in the game at 10/11.
